Well I showed up to a lake I've never hunted and saw for the first time at LST. not the smartest way to duck hunt but I still haven't figured out how a guy can hold a 9-5 and scout public land Friday unless he's doing it in the dark.
There were shots in the lake and I saw a couple of distant flights of probably gadwall a half mile away. Other than that I got a 200 yard buzz of what I think was four ringers due their size and speed and tight, synchronized formation. Thought I saw a bit of black and white too but they were far.
I did get buzzed by a single woodie drake, can't remember what I was doing but by the time I saw it no way I could get off a shot in time. It's too bad, too, it was only about 20 yards off.
Spent be afternoon paddling looking for the X but saw no more ducks. They hightailed it from the hunting pressure. Since I didn't find anything I am gonna sleep in and break camp in the morning, probably paddle scout another place the way home.
Scotch by the fire has been good to me though
