4)Dogs are allowed as long as you will take responsibility for them and keep up with their needs.
5)Hunters may drive along edges of field if the field roads are not wet. If your tires create ruts of more than 1 inch stop immediately and return to field entrance to park. Never drive into or park in the field.
6)Birds may be cleaned in the field as long as it is done over a trash sack and every effort is made to remove all remaining feathers and other bird remnants from the field .
7)This Day hunt is for doves only! No other animal or species of bird are to be taken.
8)ANY HUNTER DEMONSTRATING UNSAFE GUN HANDELING ACTIVITY WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE PREMISIS IMMEDIATELY.

Looks like we only have six hunters so far for Wednessday the 1st through Fri the 3rd. First weekend (4th & 5th)we only have 12 hunters confirmed so still plenty of room for more hunters. One of our hunters is a celebrity of sorts and I won't say his name however, I will say that he is the Humor Editor for Texas Fish and Game Magazine. I'll bet you can figure this one out.

Scouting report for my 4 fields (3-12 miles north of town) are spotty at best.
We have some birds (mix of whitewings and mournings) in three seperate fields however on a 1-10 scale (w/ 1 being no birds at all and 10 being 30 minute limits for average shooters) I would have to say that we currently sit at a 3.5.
I have personally seen openers such as this one is shaping out to be and believe that the reason for the "spoty" area dove situation is mainly due to the good crop yeild that this part of the state has seen this year due to the right amount of rains at the right time. In other words, all farmers in this part of the state have just (within the past three weeks) harvested a bountifull corn & milo crop which in turn has the birds very spread out. There is literally tons of waste grain in every crop field that there is in Uvalde County which means that the birds are not simply concentrated in just the fields that have pivot or line style irrigation systems as was the case last year (one of the dryest years on record for this area).
My best guess is that in the three large areas that I have mentioned, I could probably scratch 3-7 doves in a 1/2 day hunt as long as I was using a MoJo decoy.
This is not to say that there is not some outstanding dove hunting fields just on the outskirts of town / within 1-2 miles of the town itself.
Whitewings in the town of Uvalde are THICK however, they are all staying within approx 2 miles of town as there is no reason to go any further to feed.
One of the landowners / Farmer / Outfitter who I frequently hunt with has a 1300ac field (just north of town and on the border of the city limit) has 5k - 10 K whitewings bombarding his fields every morning at 7:30am and afternoon around 4:00pm. I spoke with him this morning and he stated that he is booked up for the first week of central season however, he fully expects all of his hunters to limit out fast and be out of the fields by 10:00am which will leave the afternoons wide open for us if we want.
I wish that the current forcast looked more promising for us but keep in mind that I have not yet finished scouting out other fields w/ additional area landowners. In fact, I have an appointment this afternoon to scout several other fields 10 - 20 mi to the east of here. Furthermore, past years such as this one have shown a tremendous shift in whitewing feeding fields after the first shots are fired on opening morning and one of my fields is approx 1 mile north of where most of them are feeding now. I have seen such pressure push large flocks our way however cannot guarantee it will happen this year.
Please understand that I do not take offense to any of you cancelling your trip on account of this report. I personally will make the best of my hunt (for me and my group of friends) no matter what I see during my scouting trips today and tomorrow and you (of course) are welcome to come along as well.
Call me if you'd like as I will keep my cell phone with me but please be patient as some of the areas I am going have poor cell phone coverage.
I will do my best to keep you posted on what I find.

Scouting reports for Monday afternoon and this morning are more favorable than yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon was spent on the north edge of Sabinal looking at a 1500+ac network of fields that showed some promise with good numbers of mostly Whitewings moving low along the fence lines to feeding fields. This farm had plenty of elbow room for large numbers of hunters . The bulk of the birds by far were concentrated on the fields closest to town. This would represent a separate outfitter who stated that he had several groups of hunters for Wed/Thur/Fri and of course more coming for the weekend however indicated that accommodating my hunters would not be a problem.
This mornings scout of my fields revealed a corn/milo/cotton field that displayed a a fair to good number of Whitewing (mostly Whitewing), Mourning & a handful of Eurasion Collared dove mix that I did not pick up on yesterday morning as I was in and out of this field before 8:00am. The Whitewings did not get fired up until around 8:30 in this field today but once they did I witnessed a huntable number of groups from singles all the way to around 30+ doves clearly flying into and feeding in the field. This is a field that is approx 12 mi north of Uvalde which had me somewhat puzzled as to why so many Whitewings would be this far from town. With respect to yesterdays 1-10 scale I would give this field a solid 6. Hope this helps, call me if you need to.
