If you were hunting with your youth during youth weekend, and gigantic freak or typical 180 class with double drop tines presented itself,

Poll:
Would you take the gun from the youth and shoot it yourself?
Would you let it pass in hopes he comes back?
Would you let your unexperienced youth shoot at it?

The youth would have just bagged himself a 180 class buck of a lifetime.

Without a doubt. I would let my son or daughter take the deer. I would be so happy that you would think I shot the deer.

is the poll feature Broke or what....I vote yes!...

Let the Youth Kill it, what would you be teaching if you didn't, even that lesson is not worth an 180 class buck

Let the youth have it.
Hopefully when he gets older he will understand what was given to him by someone that took the time to show him the great outdoors and pass his learning on to the next genaration. Dosen't have to be a big buck to do this but you get my drift.

Let the youth shoot it. Never put your children in the position to lie for you. That weekend is for the kids, if you want to be hunting, hunt with a bow.

if i could help her line it up and get a quality shot, then yes, she would shoot it.

but if it were a difficult shot that only an experienced hunter takes after careful consideration... ie.. 300 yd shot while walking, then no i wouldnt take it.

lying to the state is not good, lying to your kid is pretty bad.. making your kid a liar is way worse than any of that.
that is a lie he/she would have to keep for a long long time

Say what you want but i would let him BLOW THAT DEER AWAY.

We have that EXACT SCENARIO going on at our place this weekend!!! Got a 200" deer we are hunting and Youth weekend is this weekend.

I remember some of the deer I have taken, but I remember every damn one that my sons have taken! Hunting with youth is what it is all about. Go ahead son, take your time, get your breath and then knock him a flip !!!!!

Live in the day you have, tomorrow is not a given !

Bagged it, tagged it, field dressed it, and remembered it the rest of his life.... simply priceless.

My son was put to a similar test last year.Biggest deer he had ever see in daylight comes out while he is in a blind with my 8 year old grandson. The deer was a main frame 10 that was 150-160 and he had told my grandson it was going to be his turn to shoot a buck. He passed the test and let my shaking grandson take the shot.He then sat and watched as the deer ran 100 yards away and then tried to get him on the deer again with no luck. He still tells the story today and I say don`t you wish I had taken my grandson to my blind. He just looks at me and grins.

if it was a inexperienced youngin then that buck would walk until i could train that little one how to be effective with such a big buck and get back out there so they could get their trophy

you are the adult in the stand, and it is your job to know the ability of the youth you are hunting with. If you aren't sure of their shooting ability, they should not be on the stand. Period.

BUT, as everyone here is here because they are a hunter, you know your kid can drive tacks with his gun. Let him take the shot, then explain to him that he'll hunt the rest of his life and he will never see another deer like that one.

My 14 yo son doesn't miss and he kills clean. 10 deer so far including a nice 9 point he took in Missouri. He gets the shot. He will have a long time to relish, or regret, that opportunity but he will only be there once. I hate a thief and I wouldn't steal that away from him for anything.
