So you didn't lose it, you just found it too late. At least you got closure. Yes, found it to late. I just hated wasting the meat due to the December Texas heat.

There are sprays that make the blood glow. Not sure the name but it is used in forensics also. My buddy swears by it. He said it makes the blood glow in the dark.
I am fairly new to deer hunting but have hunted with some very experienced hunters. This weekend I had almost the same experience you had. The blood trail just stopped. Finally went with the "down hill towards water theory" and there she was about 125 yards away. Buddy said that because I nicked the intestine, the bowl contents, clogged/clotted the hole.

my dad made a bad shot on a blackbuck and we found her a good 200-250 yards away at night. guess we got lucky , no blood but a few specks near where she was shot. dad found a big spot of blood like she laid down and called us all over , and i found her a good 25 yards from the blood he found.

Use a weiner dog and grind everything into little sausage links. Sorry you lost your deer.
Be kind with your words, thankful to your Creator and generous with the meat from your hunt.

go towards the water is always the best...deer use it for clotting the wound..also whatever direction you last saw the deer go into brush, remember this instincts make them go opposit once they are in cover.... My grandpa(God bless him for all his time with me before he passed) showed me how to track even after dark, he always brought a little can of spray paint so he wouldn't go through a area twice or lost, never lost a deer, but the one buck that jumped into a fast flowing creek, found him 2 days later, my friend has him on his wall. My grandfather always said, if you don't find it, don't bring it home and count it, so don't go home without it or you wasted one of God's creatures. He was really old school, and I loved him for it. He was proud that I didn't mount the 16 point my friend has a his wall, he found it 2 days later on the edge of the fast moving water....beautiful..heart lung shot..BUT
