"and from :http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/newsmedia/releases/?req=20080708d
Mountain lion attacks on humans are equally rare. Only three attacks on humans in Texas have been reported since 1980, all in remote areas of West Texas."

Yep, that's what I told one of my hunters after a lion wandered through camp while we were out hunting one opening morning. That, and this isn't California. Lions still fear humans here.

Didn't help. He was so unnerved by walking to and from his blind 100 yards from camp he still got off the lease. That was 15 years ago. Only seen tracks once since then. His loss.

You guys are leaving out the meat factor. It's not widely publisized but I have it on good authority that the three Texans attacked since 1980 had, within a few minutes of hiking, rubbed themselves down from head to toe with raw meat. Two with beef one with chicken.

Ok, here's my 2 cents. You have a real danger. A grown mountain lion often takes 90 lb calves up into trees for safe keeping from other predators. We have all seen the pictures of these big cats. To "poo, poo" any concerns is to play the part of the fool. I would certainly NOT stop hunting. I would just hunt wisely. If you see a mountain lion, bang him.

Be kind with your words, thankful to your Creator and generous with the meat from your hunt.

17 deaths Total in U.S. since 1980, 3 attacks in the same 29 years in Texas, none of which i can find a death involved...and your sayin there is a real danger........

simply false..You have more of a chance of falling down and hitting your head on a rock...want a real danger 1 in 5 die from heart disease....1 in 7 of cancer.....but we aint skeered to smoke a cig or have a dip and eat at Micky D's...

Unjustifiable fear!

Unjustifiable you say? I say very real threats unless proper countermeasures are taken. For instance...you should wear one red wool sock to avoid falling down stairs, carry your toenail clippings in a little silk pouch in your right front shirt pocket to ward off rock related injuries, drink 1/3 a cup of shrimp stock each morning to avoid heart disease, and donate half your weekly earnings to PETA to keep the cancer at bay...

JCB,

I'll quote one hillbilly I saw on Monster Quest when the dude asked him about the Black Panther.

"We didn't know they didn't exist"

I've seen five in my lifetime, two in Florida, one in Mississippi, and two in Alabama.

They are real.

Hahaha... Would Cuddeback use a PS-ed photo to promote their products? Would Ralph Loren? No wait!

I've got the solution - just wear one of the old fashioned orange life jackets around your neck to and from the stand and it won't be able to get to your neck...you may look a bit strange, but maybe that in itself will be enough to deter the cat. He'll probably think you are retarded and cut you a break!

As far as having a hand gun bow hunting, is it legal? I wouldn't shoot a white tail with a pistol if I was bow hunting. If it is illegal when bow hunting for deer, whose to say I wasn't pig hunting and hoping for a bow shot but would settle for a pistol shot? From what I gather, you can have both if your hunting pig's. Another thought is; if you are hunting deer with a bow and you carry a pistol to your stand, if you put the pistol on the ground before you get in, ten yards away from your stand is that legal? I carry one as I walk to my bow stand because I'm sick of running from donkey's and pigs in the dark. It is more of a piece of mind for me knowing I'm not helpless.

It's cool that you found a cat track on your place but i would worry about it. Those animals have a HUGE territory and they come and go. They will take several weeks before they move back to were that track was found. If there is a cat on your place he is most likely passing though and i wouldn't sweat over walking to the stand at 5 in the morning. id be more worried about rattlers.
