I went bow hunting this past Thursday through Saturday in Junction. A few weeks ago I found a large transition path between two feeders with deer tracks every where. I though it was weird that there were not any tracks on the path when I showed up this Thursday. So, with the wind in my face, I sat up in the cedars to wait on a deer. No deer came into the area. After the hunt I went to a feeder to pull the game camera, to my surprise there was about 3 days of corn on the ground. I looked at the pictures to see a nice 6 pointer was there that morning. So I opted to hunt the feeder in hopes the 6 pointer would come back. No deer came into the area. I spent the day riding around checking the feeders; every feeder had 3 or 4 days worth of corn on the ground and no tracks. Needless to say, I did not get a deer this weekend; I dont even know if any deer are still on the lease. If you look at the pictures below you will see the amount of corn on the ground.

Why did the deer stop going to the feeders? Everything is nice a green, are the deer eat natural food sources?

Thanks for the input.

Same thing is happening at our lease out in Menard County. The grass is waist high and there's so much browse, there's no need to hit the feeders. We have corn sitting on the ground, which is crazy for that part of the country.

Wait until a good freeze and all the acorns drop, and you'll see the activity pick back up.

Are the acorns starting to fall?

I was in menard Co last weekend and the acorns were all over the place, and still have a gozillion in the trees, the grass was green, even in the roads, places where there is never grass looks like a golf course, I am going to hope they come to the sweet feed, our rancher turned off his water well, which is usually a HUGE draw for the deer, but there is plenty of water in the creeks, Our atvantage is we have goats, goats and deer compete and the goats do not typically get into our feed pens, but still there is plenty to eat out there. I guess with all the rain though, the acorns that drop will rot pretty fast.

Cut those panels down a foot and see if they can get in there to eat. Dang that's tall.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

The panels are 32 inches tall. i have the camera about 24 inches off the ground, which makes the panels look taller.

They will come back. They are just eating their natural stuff now. They were in there before so it shouldn't be a fence issue.

Amen on the Acorn crop. The good news is that the ground is wet and they will sour or get worms in short order.
Be patient and good luck,
Gary

Acorns in Menard County were about 1/2 on the tree, and 1/2 on the ground. The ones in the tree are dark brown, big, and ready to fall. They survived a huge line of windy thunderstorms on Thursday/Friday of this week, so who knows when they'll fall.

I'm hoping for an early freeze or two to help us out. Until then, it's tough hunting.

yea, that sounds like a good plan, but one way to make sure you don't have deer at the feeders is to shut them down. find other ways to hunt, trails, water, favorite oak trees, in the mean time but do Not shut the feeders down, one cold front and you be kicking yourself if you do

I feel ya Dadsaid. Our place in Burleson Co.(Lake Somerville) is usually overwhelmed with deer at the feeders. Since the acorns have started falling, we're lucky enough to even get 2 pictures of deer at the feeders. We ended up moving stands to travel ways and "that particular oak tree" and have started to see deer/hogs come around. Hang in there Bud!!

Once the natural vegetation dies off they will be back. I am in the same boat. In the mean time I will thin the hog population as they seem to show up regularly.
