Probably stick with my old Ruger .270. Gotta new 50 cal T/C Omega i'm gonna try in Arkansas in a couple of weeks for muzzleloader season & may try it later in Montague county.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

280 remington. Got a new toy and it needs to be bloodied.

Backed up by a 270 win that has seen it's share of blood.

This was posted to get an idea of what most people shoot here in TX. Please don't question another persons choice.

Im sorry, it was a question I thought worthy of asking. I dont care what anybody shoots, it can be a 50 bmg for all i care. But a 338 win mag has a good thump to it, and there are lots of guns out there easier to shoot, IMO. SO I was curious why the guy uses that particular round.

Apparently you have never shot a .338 win mag. No thump to em at all.

Don't guess many people have shot 375's or 458's either.

The Thump is all in the mind, most people I know say they never feel the gun go off when shooting hair. JMO.

relatively speaking, a 338 win mag will kick substanially more than say my 25-06. Now if you shoot a gun like that all the time, no it prolly wont bother you at all. And Ihave shot one, shot many guns of all different sizes and weights, which makes more of a difference in regards to kick than any thing.

Nevertheless, I saw the post and thought, thats different, dont know anybody who uses that on whitetails, I wonder if theres a good story behind it and the gun. Reason being, most people use 30 caliber and under. Now you guys can take offense all you want, but i thought it would be nice to hear some of the stories behind why some people shoot calibers that the average hunter doesnt. Makes things a little more interesting, ya know!

Well I guess mine don't kick too bad cause my wife shoots it too. Prolly has more kick than her .243, but she don't mind shootin it a bit.

I know lets try this, without any offense. We shoot the big guns because we want to, and there is no law in Texas that says we can't.

Look, HT and I both have shot numerous deer with smaller calibers, for me, I have killed deer with a 22 Hornet. Would you use a 22 Hornet?

There are a lot of folks out here that prefer the bigger calibers. The problem that I am seeing, is that we don't care if a person wants to use a smaller caliber, but the folks that want to use the smaller calibers seem to have a definite problem with those of us using larger calibers.

Sorry dad gonna have to disagree with ya on this one. I give Wild Boar a lot of crap for shootin a 22/250.

Yes my boy, but that is why we get along. I don't care how much crap you give others, I just figure that one day they will take a shot and set back and say, "Lord I Wished I Would Have Had A Bigger Gun."

I am not trying to be mean to Wild Boar, I just don't agree with him.

I dont have a problem with what anyone shoots if you want to go rabbit hunting with 50 cal sharps I'm all for it. I have also shot several deer many with larger calibers (up to a 300 mag) and I perfer the smaller ones. There is no law that says I cant hunt with the smaller ones either. I dont care what has happen to Joe Blow when he shot 3 deer with a 22-250 and only found one of them it has never happen to me. You say your afraid one day I might loose a deer and wish I had a bigger gun and you might be right.(bigger isn't always the answer) But so far the only deer I have every lost was with a 30'06 shooting 220 gr bullets. And I feel like if I had made the some shot with a 22-250 I would have found the deer. I'm will proble own a few big bores one day and hunt with them but I doubt that I hang the 22-250 on the wall and just look at it. The way I see it a man cant own to many different rifles and calibers I'd like to have one of each.

CHC, First off, if you would actaully read what I am asking about, you might understand the question a little better than what you do now. If you think I am saying anything negative about shooting a larger bullet, you are sorely mistaken. Another fella posted about shooting a 240 weatherby, which happens to be one of my favorite rounds, and I would love to hear him talk more about it, For the simple reason being, you dont hear many people using it on whitetails, or anything else for that matter, its not a well known cartridge. When HT made his post, I thought the same thing, it is just on the other end of the spectrum.

In regards to a 22 hornet, I dont really think much of the round, so I am not interested in any stories behind it.

Sometimes if a person would just take the time to read what is actually being asked, instead of jumping to conclusions and taking offense, you wouldnt look silly answering a question that hasnt been asked.

I think it was a great topic, and I for one wanted to see a few more details about some particular calibers used that are outside the norm. It is nothing more than that.

Now, I think this thread has been hijacked enough, I am sorry highway man, if I have any more questions to ask people about what they are shooting, I will do it privately.

After all this, can you imagine the uproar if the state decided to pass a law saying deer hunters had to use a 25 cal or larger, and not more than 30 caliber?

But now all you horn hunters better not gripe, we all know the government knows best and is here to help us....
