I was at my loacl gunshop today and the owner told me to come look at this. It was some kind of device made by BSA that mounted on top of the scope using mounts. IT was a green laser that the beam could be made narrow to wide. It was a laser flashlight. On the scope mount that attched it one could adjust the windage and vertical adjustments of it to put the laser light where it would shine on where your crosshairs we're at. A man come in telling him how good they we're and so on. He thought the man was full of it. He ordered one and liked it so much he ordered twenty of them. He said when he went hog hunting he took one, because he don't trust anybodys word on products he must see it with his own eyes. He said he could see the color of the hog and he could tell it was a sow he was shooting at almost 200 yards. He said he was very impressed. He sells night vision gen 3+ also. He put one on top of his .223 supressed remington. He said whatever he would shine on, it would light them up good. You can't see the beam in the air, just what it hits. The you adjust it depending onthe distance. I looked at BSA website and found nothing. They sell for 300 bucks. He said he thinks they work just as good as gen 2 NV. IT's projecting a laser beam of light, but the details are better then gen 2 NV. Just curious if anyone else has seen this.

I have not but would be very interested.

Little surprised because IMO BSA just doesn't make quality products.

Keep us updated, though.

You need to take it apart and drop in an IR laser diode and then look at it through gen 3. You CAN see the laser beam all the way to the target then... but only when you look through the gen 3.... can't see anything otherwise. It looks like something out of Star Wars or something and they just shoot off into nowhere up in the sky. SUPER COOL!!! Just be sure not to shine it at anyone or any pet that you care about confused2

I will be picking up a PVS-14 soon and will take some pics once it's all done. up

I have the ND3 and the ND5, testing them for the VARMINT HUNTER MAGAZINE. I have used them in the field but the moon has been too bright to give a fair and honest evaluation. This product is not made by BSA, rather Laser Genetics. I will post results as they become available.
Adios,
Gary

Good deal Gary and Greg, keep us informed. Yeah, I wanted to grab one, but I had just got through paying for a .243 Kimber Montana for my wife/me LOL. Now she wants a dam pink sling for it. I guess I'm going have to buy a spare for when I take it out, I'm not going to be packing a pink slinged rifle anywhere!!

I own one of these lights and right on the box it says laser genetics made by BSA Optics. There is a link to laser genetics on the BSA website. These lights are pretty cool, and the animals don't seem to mind them. Checked out the SWFA website and they have some good reviews about hog hunting.

I am a gun dealer in Austin, Texas. I recently became interested in this product and I found this forum in my search for this product. Here is the little bit I have learned about this product.

On one of my wholesaler's sites, this product is sold under BSA Optics. They had zero stock on the item so I looked with other wholesalers. I couldn't find it anywhere else, so I called one of my largest suppliers and inquired. The salesman pointed me to "Gamo Airguns" where I found the exact product being marketed by them as "Gamo Genisys Laser Designator". It is the exact same product, costs exactly the same, and comes with the exact same accessories - it's just being marketed by a different distributor. I purchased one, but it has not yet arrived.

When it arrives I will be attaching it to one of my Bushmaster AR-15's. Initially I will be putting it on my Varminter (24" extra heavy stainless barrel, Leupold Mk-AR 6-18X40mm, 2 stage competition trigger, 3.5lb lead in rifle butt, Harris bipod). I will be taking that rifle, with the laser designator on a varmint (coyote/bobcat) hunt in about 3 weeks. If I like it, I plan on adding one to one of my other AR-15's (Bushmaster TEXAS edition A3M4). Hopefully Eagle Peak will let me do a little prone, nighttime shooting with the lighting shut off!

I will keep you all updated on its performance and anything I learn about who actually designed and/or manufactures the unit.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Sooo, my favorite UPS guy brought me a little gift today - you guessed it: my very own ND3 Laser Designator! On the package it specifies "Laser Genetics by BSA Optics". I still don't know if that means they manufacture it or not, but it is certainly what it leads me to believe. I'll still do more inquiring on the details later.

The important part...
I haven't yet mounted my ND3 to a rifle, but I did give it quite a run in my neighborhood. From my front yard I am able to get 300 to 400 yard line of sight visuals of various rooftops and house walls and such. I can say that other than being a LOT of fun to play with, the ND3 DID in fact seem to offer plenty of light with which to illuminate a target well enough to be able not only to see the target, but also to see the cross-hairs in my optics. With my ND3 and a 6-18X40mm scope, I could very clearly see the texture in bricks on houses at least 250 yards away.

It was all very shaky because I was trying to juggle the laser and the optics and make power and beam-spread adjustments to the units while trying to keep them both lined up on "targets" hundreds of yards away, but I was more than impressed. This was as much fun to play with as regular laser pointers when they were first coming onto the market (Yeah, I know you remember the first time you took your new laser pointer to the movie theater and pissed everybody off).

I will keep you all updated on my progress with the ND3. I'm supposed to go on a nighttime hog hunt this weekend and another nighttime coyote/bobcat hunt in another couple of weeks. After playing with this thing a little, I am now anticipating that it will in fact do what it promises.

So far the only thing about the ND3 with which I am unhappy is the limited 1 year warranty.

Exstensively reviewed on another site. They do not seem to function well at all in freezing temps. Laser Genetics is aware of the problem.

Well, there ya go. Plenty of info on it.

Fortunately I live in Austin where we don't get more than a handful of cold nights per year. It's very disappointing knowing that it will fail in the cold, though.

Called BSA today to inquire about the lower temp issues I have heard about people having with the Laser Genetics ND3 and ND5'S. Lady I talked to in customer service said that, yes, they knew there were lower operating temperature issues with there product and that they were working on resolving the problems. Said they believed it was a battery issue. I told her that the lithium batteries work OK in everything else in colder temps. She had no answer for that. I asked when they expected to have the issue resolved as I didn't want to spend $250-$300 dollars on a light I could not use in cold temps. She said they hoped to have the problem solved in 3-4 months. I said, yes, by then the temps will be warmed up and they will probably work ok until it gets cold again. She again had no answer to my question. Sounds to me like they are having serious issues and don't have a clue how to resolve them and are going to keep trying to sell there inferior products to unsuspecting people.

Myself and two friends purchased the ND3 and all of them stopped working in low to mid 30 degree weather. We also called BSA and where told they new about the issue of it not working below40 degrees.there great wisdom was too attach hand warmers to it.Looks like i am going to be out 300 dollars. They suggested taking it back to where i purchased the lazer, But that company wants nothing to do with it.
