I am looking at our lease from a couple different websites (aerial view) and I am not liking what I am getting. Is there some way that acreage is figured in the survey that I am not aware of? I was just measuring from the photo to get square milage and getting an estimate. Reason i did this, is I started walking the lease this weekend and I am having a hard time believing it is the size we were told. Any help would be appreciated.

why not just go and look at the appraisal office or whatever, they will have a map that tells u the acreage, with no guess work.

Thats the same figure I keep gettin. Is this accurate? When acreage is measured, does it account for elevation change, or is it straight aerial?

Everything I've used it on has been within several acres...anything from 260 acres-20,000

How far off are you?

You shouldn't get a difference of a 100 acres, did the landowner say he had 500 and you are coming up with 400?

If that's the case you probably need to talk with the landowner.

I just did the planimeter and came within 2 acres on our place. Cannot beat that.

Well looks like I might have gotten screwed. It my fault. Thanks for the help. I'll check with the survey office, and if that shows to be the case. I'll have to go from there I guess.

Maybe he forgot to tell you about a pasture confused2 That's no good, I would talk with him and see what the deal is, is it a per gun or per acre lease?

It's lookin like it. However, I won't comment till I get a straight answer. I have messed up so much on this lease. It is my first...so I am learning a lot.

I use that tool and it works. Ours is 1,000 acres but it really is 1,098 using that tool so ours is a better deal than we started with. Price went from $10 to $9.15 an acre.

But I have been in your boat too. My first lease, the guy says it is 200+ acres. The next week I drive two sides and they are 1/2 mile so I am really on a 1/4 section. I tell him and he is like, landower wants that so price is the same. Sloppy sales is what it was since you can tell from an aerial map very easy.

Wow, I did not know that tool existed. Thanks. I did a couple of our pastures, the first on is 1000 acres and using the tool came up with 998.4 the second one I did is 600 acres and came up with 600.1.
