Looking to build “my last” rifle. Looking for something that will provide 1800 fps and 1000 ft-lb at 800 yards.
Using a recoil calculator, nothing beats a 6.5 creed with the 156 berger or the 147 eldm.
Im looking for a 9 lb rifle. In another rifle, 42 grains of h4250 gives me 2735fps with the 156 berger.
I have a 28 nosler and a 7 prc, but looking for a light recoiling rifle.
Thoughts?

7mm-08 Ackley Improved, you decide on barrel length. These numbers I'm giving you, I have loaded and confirmed across ten rifles now.
16", 162 gr ELD-X 2600 fps MV 20", 162 gr ELD-X 2700 fps MV 24", 162 gr ELD-X 2800 fps MV
That bullet has a G-7 of .318
See what you see.

I’d go with the 7-08 AI, as well. I don’t know anything that beats it for the recoil.

A 6mm creed running a 115 at 3000fps, will hit those #'s, and be extremely light recoiling. 6.5 prc will also do it with ease and not be much worse on the shoulder.

Long barreled 6cm or 6prc/saum/um

looks i currently have a fast barrel on a 6.5 creed. 24 inches 2735 156 berger
the high bc the 156 .347 g7 at 2735 very very slightly beats the 7-08ai at 2800 and the 162 eldx, but i may not get that with another barrel
the 6.5 prc loses on recoil unless i load it light.
what powder grain for the 6mm to hit 3000 fps? ill plug it into a calculator

the 6mm creed with the 115 berger using 41 grains of powder meets the 1800 fps but doesn’t make 1000 ft-lb at 800 yards,
it has considerably less recoil

What are the 5 and 10 mph wind drift calls on all three? 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm

I run a tipped d-tac. I guess using my own data, it's actually 3050fps. I have to use a .600 G1 bc to make the ballistics line up. Could be my 7.5 twist barrel. it's a old comp rifle weighing in at 13lbs with a brake, but it still makes me grin when I shoot it and watch the holes appear on paper. The thing just doesn't move. I haven't run a 708, but I know for a fact my 6.5 saum has less felt recoil than my 308.

All wind drifts at 800 yards. 6 creed at 3050, 5 mph is a .3 mill hold. 10 mph is a .92 hold. 6.5 saum with a 147 at 3010, 5 mph is a .14 mill. 10 mph is a .29. 7mm 162 eld-x at 2800 is .47 at 5 mph, and .95 at 10 mph. Using ballistic AE.

Need a 6.5 Creedmoor, brother.
He's not going to use a SAUM. It's going to have more recoil than he wants. It's a short mag, instead of just a short.
I bet the 6.5 Creedmoor and the 7mm-08 A.I. are the same holds. For my personal rifles, they match 5 mph wind holds. 143 gr in the 6.5 Creedmoor and 162 gr in the 7mm-08 A.I. But that's with a 24" 6.5 Creedmoor and a 16" 7mm-08 A.I. 200 fps difference in the MVs.

I find the 7 prc suppressed really not kicking much more than the medium calibers posted here
What happen if you put some 162’s in one?

24” 7-08 AI 166 A-tip: .332 G7 with a real world 2752 for accuracy. It’ll run faster but accuracy was my goal. Easily shot multiple rounds by the recoil sensitive but coming in close to #15 with a Hellfire Match. 5mph 90° ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-16103-449159-img_1961.png) This may not be your answer but it’s more information. It’s also my current darling.

I don’t understand why my wind is showing so much higher than everything you have trigger-time. Either all of yours needs a 1 in front of it or I’m doing something wrong, which is likely.
I did just change to G1 at .664 and it came down to 1.0.

That's not 5 mph at 90°
Those holds are for a higher wind speed. Check your inputs.

What happen if you put some 162’s in one? Equal weight rifles, same muzzle device, +60 gr of powder (7 PRC) is going to recoil more than 40 gr of powder.

Those holds are for a higher wind speed. Check your inputs. Just double checked. 5 mph at 90°. Maybe my calculator sucks.

I'm not sure why were getting different numbers. I just ran it in Hornady 4DOF and they pretty much matched. Another huge thing to consider is how the rifle is set up. Stock geometry and material can make a big difference in recoil at your shoulder. Also, a very effective brake will take half or more of that recoil out. J.G. and I both built 300 norma's around running a 250 class bullet and they are nice to shoot. Granted they weigh twice as much, but that's only one of the factors.

How about I had a zero offset of 1.8” Now it makes sense. Glad i don’t use it for wind. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-16103-449164-img_1964.png)
