Bicept tendon. Can tear near the elbow or the shoulder. Mine tore loose at the shoulder. If you want it fixed there is a narrow window to get it done.

If you busted the main tendon, you now have the “Popeye Deformity”. And so do I. All those decades of tennis wore mine out. Anyway, you still have (most likely) the secondary tendon, which the Doc said would never break. I elected to just leave it in Popeye mode. It took a while for the bicep to settle down and not hurt at times. Still looks a bit odd.
My old and now deceased buddy, Pete, did his right arm bicep pulling on a chainsaw. That was the first time I had seen a bicep tendon break.
The Doc told me that the old quarterback, Brett Favre, had the same thing.

popped mine about 5 years ago and as others have said, if you are planning to fix it, you need to get into surgery ASAP. The longer you wait, the more the tendon shrinks up into the arm, and the more complicated the surgery becomes to fix it. I didn't think anything of it when I tore mine until the Dr did the "keep me from turning your wrist" test. He had me hold my had out like were were going to shake and then easily turned my wrist clockwise and counter-clockwise. Basically, I had no strength in my arm for a turning motion (same motion you would make turning a screwdriver). As soon as he saw that, he called his nurse into the room and told her to find the first available spot on his surgery calendar. My family has done a bunch of knee and shoulder surgeries with their office and it was always a very casual, here's our schedule for the next couple of months, let us know what works out for you. This was the first time they were actively looking to see who they could cancel or move to get us into surgery over the next week to 10 days.
Thanks, Rich

Get it fixed asap. When they did my right shoulder rebuild, the top end came loose so they moved it down the bone. I now have the “Popeye Deformity”.

Dumb azz mistake. Moving a big sofa on a dolly in 40 mph winds. Came around the corner of the house and wind caught it and spun it into the car, so I tried to catch it. Should have just let it go where it wanted. Hopefully the doc will have some good news tomorrow.

Keep us informed on the doc and surgery. I chose to not have the surgery, but the bicep/shoulder hurts as we speak. Never hurts much, but hurts a little often. Good luck.

I did it during Covid, dumb B at the er said there was nothing wrong with me, see GP in a week if still bothering me. GP said give it another week and then wouldn’t schedule me another appt because of Covid. Guess I have a F-ed up arm for life. It’s been what 5 years now? It still looks weird and isn’t as strong as my other arm but it works.

Saw the ortho today, and she ordered an MRI stat. Not an emergency anymore, but follow up next Tuesday and make decision based on MRI result. Wear a compression sleeve to control the swelling. They can stitch muscles after all. Who knew?? It darkened up considerably, but she says the bleeding has stopped and clots shouldn't be a problem. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-22567-448882-img_9246.jpeg)

Mine is back issues. They shot my lower back with pain killers that really helped. Now Doc wants to go in and fuse it. Not sure about that. I’ll be asking a lot of questions about what could go wrong.
Going to have to talk to them about pain in right knee.
I’m thinking this stuff is arthritis that doesn’t go away.
It’s true. Old age isn’t for sissies. But, I guess it beats the alternative.

I was throwing clay pigeons at a youth event almost 15 years ago and did the same thing to mine. I knew I had messed up immediately and the pain was instantaneously. Took me at least a month to get over. The bruise took about 4-5 days to fully present itself. Very colorful.

Hooray!! Just got done with the ortho and its good news. The MRI was really good, and showed I had partially torn the bicep muscle in the center, and the outer sheath was fully intact. He and the hand surgeon conferred and agreed that surgery was NOT required, and it should fully heal on its own. May have a "Popeye bulge and only get back to 90-100%, expect 3-6 month recovery.
Basically, no restrictions and let pain be my guide and limit in recovery.
