Good point. On a Ford you disconnect the negative battery cable and when then use a jumper wire from the positive battery post to the disconnected negative battery cable. This will drain any of the capacitors in the PCMs and throttle body. You leave it for about a minute. Then reconnect the negative battery cable and turn the ignition to on, letting the dash cluster sequence / prove out for 20 or so seconds before starting the truck. Make sure all fan blowers, lights, a/c, radio etc are off. Then you start the truck and let it idle for 15 minutes to let the throttle body learn and set the trim levels through the warm up period. Then you take it for drive and let the throttle body learn to drive modes (accelerate normally). This should reset the throttle body back to factory specs

Again this is a sequence for a ford. You might have a slightly different one for the Mopile. I don't think I could stand 1800 RPM startups everyday. Good luck.

So 1500 for one minute. Nothing to see here. Everyone should be letting their engine run for a minute before driving anyway.

Blame the EPA for this. Quicker the warm up the less the emissions overall.

Pass the gravy.

What happened in 2022(that has to do with Tundra cold idling)?

That was before the EPA got involved.

It was bad for them before the epa too. Low cylinder temps poor combustion low oil pressure all leads to worse life for you engine. Detrimental? No, but no benefit to extended idling other than a little for warm up and or cool down if worked hard before shut down.

Early 80’s F350 6.9 diesel bucket truck working for the telco here. One summer, would idle the truck 8 hours while running 12 volt manhole blower and water pump working a manhole splicing job in the Capital complex downtown Austin. Only shut off for lunch. Only issue was it looked like a mosquito fogger for about a mile when heading back to the yard on I35 at the end of the day. Even water in the fuel on this truck wasn’t a fuel system killer, it would just chug a little black smoke and keep on trucking.

Never given this stuff any thought and at least partially because Im not mechanical at all. Ive always let any of mine idle for a "little while"(30 sec?) just cause it seemed to be common sense. Certainly would crank and go without any thought if I was in a real hurry.
Today I checked my 17 Tundra. It started out at about 1200 for about 30 sec before slowly going down to about 800 after a few minutes. I guess Im good to go.......?

I’m obviously doing it all wrong. My truck sees at least 4 hours of idling a week. Don’t buy my truck. I’ve obviously already put it to death rolleyes

Checked mine today. 2015 RAM 2500 with 6.4 hemi,
Cranks and idles at 1300 for about 20 seconds and then slowly goes to 750 idle.
