We need more of this to happen in Texas. Texas Water Company said no to 9 developments.

The Texas Water Company (TWC) is temporarily pausing new service commitments for nine proposed developments in Comal County, citing rapid growth and drought. “We hear you. We know water availability is a concern, and we want to assure you TWC is taking action,” the company said in a Facebook post directed at customers today. “With Texas facing severe drought and rapid growth, we’re prioritizing reliable service today while securing water for the future.” The unprecedented move was praised by Comal County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jen Crownover, who represents the north side of Canyon Lake where residents are fighting a permit

Give the taxpayers a break and let the developers pay for the new infrastructure.

Ultimately it comes down to the homeowner/tax payer paying. If the developer has to pay more, it is passed on to the homeowner.

Eventually we all end up paying for it either way. The new houses cost more, which makes our homes worth more, which means we pay more in taxes after the new valuations go into effect.

The taxman always cometh.

I don’t have enough time to worry about the negligible difference that would make in my tax bill.

People should play with numbers and find out how big a change they need to make in their home value to significantly change their tax liability.

water is not an endless supply as it seems the developers believe. Around here in central TX we've been on level 3 water restrictions for the past several years where we can only water 1 time per week ... but yet there have been literally tens of thousands of new home / apartment construction continuing to accommodate the influx of new people moving into the Austin metro area. Here is Georgetown, they pipe water from lake Belton to Still House Hollow lake and then on to Lake Georgetown ... only saving grace is that almost forces the Corp of Engineers to make Lake Georgetown virtually a constant level lake to maintain the pool for the water to be drawn out of.

If there isn't enough water to supply current housing and keeps us in stage 3 restrictions, why the heck are they allowing more new construction????

Recently purchased 10 acre properties around here are sitting there unimproved, because after they bought it in the land rush 3 years ago, they found out what it costs to get a well to the 2nd Trinity through limestone bedrock.

Sounds like their little slice of heaven turned into a slice of hell. It really doesn't matter if they hold it for 10 years they will come out like a bandit.

Now that word has gotten around about water here, it's worth 30% less already. Water is the future in rural Texas real estate.

It is and the reason for this thread is to open some eyes.

I have some rural property in North Texas. I don’t live there but have a water well for the mobile home. When drilled, it produced 1/10 gpm. But, it produces it 24 hrs per day and I pump it into a 2,500 gallon tank with a line to the house. I worry about drillers coming in looking for oil and depleting the aquifer. That happened sometime
back to ranchers about 20 miles away.

A house without water is useless.

Rainwater capture and cisterns. I've been living like that for 5 years.

My next place, I will have the same system again. It doesn't matter if the area gets half the rainfall I get now. Big roof means big gallons. Have capacity to get you through summer.

My orthopedic surgeon told me he’s building a house near Wimberly and is doing the rainwater recapture. Well drilling in that area is very deep and extremely expensive. Our “normal” annual precipitation is 30” annually. But it hasn’t been normal around here for almost 20 years.
