is Texas a part of the South or Part of the South-West.
I will reserve my opinions until after the comments are in
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

We are Texas. 'Texas' is enough said.
I used to travel more internationally, but everywhere I went, people would ask me where I was from. I always said 'Texas'.
The funny part is when you talk to them more, they always say the same thing. Everyone from Texas says Texas. Everyone from the rest of the US says the United States.

You hear people talk about this or that on the west side, or this or that on the east side of the Mississippi river. I say we’re part of the southwest. Yes it’s Texas, and yes we are our own country of sorts.

Both! Texas is huge. Heck, you could even consider it part of the Great plains. And I agree, if I leave the country, I tell people I'm from Texas.

Texas is a country unto itself. East Texas shares an ecosystem with Louisiana, which is part of "The South". The same holds true with the western border, sharing an ecosystem with New Mexico, which is part of the "South West". The Rockies extend into the Trans Pecos Region. Which are part of Colorado, which is part of "The West". Eastern Colorado has the high plains, the same as Texas does. What did I win?

Texas is definitely southern until you get north of the Brazos River.

Texas is bigger than Spain, France and Germany. West Texas could identify as SW. East could identify as South.
If you draw a line from Childress to Laredo, 90 percent live east of that line.

Interesting, that was probably 12-13 years ago when I saw the Eden claim. They weren’t even close!

What makes it more evident to me is if you travel to those different regions in Texas, you can tell by the way they talk, the food they are known for and the overall culture, generally speaking. It's very distinct in every region and I appreciate the beauty, culture and the people that each region has. Of course, everyone is partial to certain areas but that's what makes Texas so great. We could argue for days about what region is best but at the end of the day if I am in some far away place and there is a native Texan in the room, I already have a bond with someone. No other state has that kind of connection between its people that I have seen, and I have traveled this country quite a bit.

When someone asks, the answer is simple….
The Great State.
No other explanation or description seems neccessary.

AI answer:
Texas is generally considered part of the South, specifically the West South Central region, though it also has strong cultural and geographical ties to the Southwest.

We should be southwest. With the exception of far east Texas, our only real ties to the south were a lil' slavery and our involvement in the altercation with the Union.
