Anybody use one? I've got a habit of buying camping gear so have multiple tents, quilts, bags, pads, and so on for various type of camps, and recently started looking into bedrolls. I like the idea of having more of a bed system that's all in one and pretty much ready to go. Especially for those base camp/ car camping setups where size and weight doesn't matter, it's about comfort.

This is one I'm looking at. I could save about $250 on the system since I already have that exact pad (absolutely phenomenal pad btw)

Just go buy a queen size down comforter for less than half the cost of that setup. Double it over on itself and put your sleeping bag on it. I have had some great sleep with this set up.

I had an old school cowboy canvas one for years. I’d take it and sleep under combine for wheat and corn harvest when moisture got to high at night, or when day working. It finally died. I was gifted a canvas cutter dominator , and absolutely love it. It’s One of the early editions, think right when they started. It has double in price since then. I used it three weeks ago in NM, think it got down to 29. Normally put 5-15 plus nights a year in it. I don’t know if I’d buy one at current prices but I damn sure use it and like it.

Currently paired with Cabela's Magnum 44 -20 Sleeping Bag, warm weather I use a 40 degree quilt

That's an interesting looking one. More of a bivy and definitely more weather resistant.

Prices are pretty absurd for sure. I started down this rabbit hole by just looking for sheets for my big pad to up the comfort a bit, especially as it warms up and now I'm considering an all new system to go with the pad.

Mine is ancient military built for Alaska or worse. Haven’t used it in many years. Wife was pretty sure we needed to get rid of that big cumbersome thing. She said we really didn’t need it and it was just taking up closet space. That kind of thinking is why I’m on my second wife.

Montana canvas has a more traditional cowboy bed roll. Just a silicone treated canvas sleeve to protect pad and sleeping bag. Very Similar to my old one. They work very well, just not a bivy like canvas cutter.

I've seen Zenbivy and not sure I like the thought of the attached hood. I use EE quilts most of the time and have used them enough to where I don't have issues with quilts drafting anymore. I've been using a small 2p tent that's a step up from my motocamp setup but still on the smaller side except when I bring the thermarest pad. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm thinking of going to a bigger tent I can stand up in, cot, and more of a normal bed setup on those car camping or base camp setups for more comfort. Especially since I do alot of car camping now followed by trail runs so a good restful sleep is pretty important.

Ya I run a synthetic EE revolution for all my backpack trips really like it. Lighter and more comfortable than mummy.

I get tired of putting up and taking down tents though. I’m pretty much decided this year depending which elk tag I get to just run trap if away from truck

Be careful with goretex bivy’s they get condensation real bad, but car camping it’s easy to dry out, and in a tent probably wouldn’t have same issues as outside direct exposure in colder weather direct

The Modular Sleep System was way after Vietnam. I have several of the Tennier Industries models.

It was messing with you, goretex is post Vietnam. But those goretex bivy’s are really bad about condensation, also why a lot of the bivy’s and even high end sleeping bags have gone from goretex 2 or 3layer membrane to the goretex Infinium(windstopper). Windstopper is not as waterproof but way more breathable.

With goretex waterproof membrane you would get build up of moisture on inside of bivy and would wet outside of bag. Not a big deal if you have synthetic bag but down can be a big problem.

I use to one of the Mountain hardware goretex bags, great bag but very hard to wear/sleep your clothes dry if you had too.

That’s beauty of the silicone treated canvas, way way more breathable, and just as water proof

I got several of them brand new before they got popular and the price went up. I spent a week in one in Alaska and couldn’t ask for much more. I think the Western Mountaineering bags are about 900 bucks and I spent a hundred for each one.

Western Mountain is top of food chain. They have gotten ridiculous though

I looked at Western Mountaneering back when I was wanting to build a more lightweight setup. Super nice stuff but it is pricey. I ended up going the quilt route with Enlightened Equipment. I’ve now got 20 and 40 degree quilts from EE now and have been very happy with them.

Maybe I’ll win the big giveaway from garage grown gear this week and get a western bag lol

What I run. I have synthetic 20 degree revolution. They have a 20% off sale this week, I’m tempted to get ultralight 40 degree down revolution, to save a little weight, but the synthetic is so boom proof it’s hard to not take it, even though packablity is annoying sometimes
