Cooked a Tri-tip (Brisket Style. I prefer grilled like a steak better).
Chicken, Beef Ribs and Burgers.

The grease from the burgers caused a small fire. Cooked them last. Smothered it out quick. No harm.

Gonna have to clean it all out tomorrow.Chicken, beef ribs and tritip on. Hamburger patties on later

Food turned out great.

Is that as good as or better than a brisket. I`ve never cooked one because my wife will not eat it med/rare like it is cooked most of the time. I`d have to smoke it like a brisket for her to eat it.

I’ve done 3 tri tips like a brisket. Wife and I love it, takes about 5 hours on the stick burner. Cook it to 160°, wrap and add a little beef broth in the foil. Put back in smoker til 200+°. Just remember it has grain running 2 different directions.

You are 100% correct. I was a mkt. mgr. and meat cutter for 26 years and I have yet to slice a tri-tip. When I changed careers in 2006, most Texans still didn`t know what one was or how to cook it. At the rate Californians are moving to Texas though, that...... Sadly, will probably change.

TPACK, It's like a Brisket Flat. It tastes like Brisket, 68 is right on.

I had never heard of a tri tip until I was working in California back in 2004-2007. One of the robust ladies out there decided to do tri tip "bbq" (CA style, not TX) for a group of us foreigners (couple of dozen from our TX facility supporting a big project out there). She brought a Webber kettle style smoker (grill with a lid), bag of charcoal and a couple of marinated tri-tips, cooked to medium rare and started cutting them up. They had wonderful flavor but were kinda tough / chewy. I think that may be the only time I have ever had tri-tip though.
