Zeiss Conquest HD 3x9 40mm. At first and last light, you want German glass. Period. That’s a great scope, but I don’t think it’s German glass. Zeiss had those made on contract I think. Maybe Meopta? Maybe I made all that up. Carry on.

For plain Jane, no dialing, duplex reticle, my go to is Leupold. Vx3 2.5-10 is half of your budget. You could do well with a used vari-x as well. The smaller 40mm version is one of my favorite models.

If I were looking at a $1k budget for a plain set it and forget it scope, I would pick a Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 or 4-12x50.
