I took this cow elk back in 2020 and we noticed right away how worn her teeth were. We pulled the front 2 to send in for aging but I never got around to it until last Fall when I saw them laying around. Spouse took a cow last year so we got her tested for cwd and I sent in the old cows teeth for aging. Well the cow tested positive for cwd and we got the age back recently. The WG&F will be thinking we took a 16.5 year old cow that was cwd positive, lol. She was a chewy old cow too, and we aged her for 10 days. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-61217-448010-dscn3362_copy.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-61217-448011-dscn3364_copy.jpg)

Wow. 16.5 is ancient. What's the ramification of the cow that tested positive for CWD?

Wow. 16.5 is ancient. What's the ramification of the cow that tested positive for CWD? We were going to give that meat away but will not now. We got it tested just because the person asked about it. We gave them meat from another cow but are eating some of the positive elk. It's just more data for WG&F and we are in the endemic cwd area, actually share a fence with the research facility that cwd came from.

3 years ago I shot a very old bull. My guide told me he was going tough, we wasn't wrong. It didn't matter how I cooked the meat, it was like shoe leather, the only tender meat was his tenderloins and the meat I made into hamburger. Congratulations on your hunt.

I bet that old cow tasted like boot leather. I took a cow I killed a couple of years ago into the Fish & Game office in Pinedale to have her checked for CWD and she came back negative and the Game Warden told me she was nine years old. It was the toughest game meat I have ever eaten.
