Any one with experience hunting hogs in Sam Houston National Forest WMA? I've been on private land twice hunting hogs but have not yet given it a try on public land.

yep!

My strategy was to walk the creeks and low lying areas and look for the freshest wallows l could find. Once I find that wallow that looks like they just left it before I showed up then I usually figure out a spot to set up an ambush based on wind and topography and wait till dark. My best hunts were almost always in the afternoons and most but not all of my hogs came in the last 15 minutes of legal shooting time. I had a few during the day but 80% were in that last 15 minutes of legal time. Be ready for a quick shot and on a moving target. An AR with a low power scope in anything but 556 is best. After a few years you will figure it out on when and where the best places are. I could tell you my patterns from 10 years ago but I am sure they are different now. You have to make your own luck by sticking to the low lying areas and scouting and you will figure it out. The last few years my kill ratio per trip was going up and up once i figured out what worked well. Wallows fresh wallows!

Go get em!!
