I have an opportunity to lease some quail hunting rights on a ranch in the panhandle and was wondering what is a fair price per acre for a quail lease. This would be for January and February after deer season. I’ve never leased quail only rights and was needing some input from others who have. Thanks in advance.

Depends on acreage, any lodging, utilities, how much of the acreage is actually huntable. Feel free to PM me.

We lease quail hunting rights on our pasture for the same 2 month season. We decided to minimize the footprint of the quail hunters by leasing to one individual for $1 an acre on 5800 acres.

If you have good to great habitat you can make sure you find the right person because you have a good pool to interview and select from. Our agreement does not include any lodging or electricity.

What kind of footprint do the quail hunters leave?

That's pretty cheap for good country in the Panhandle. Poor country...yeah, maaaybe.

Totally dependent on the quality of the habitat. Could be $5/ac or $10/ac. There were good places getting $5/ac 20 years ago.

Was thinking per person cost my bad… 5,000 acre lease should be about $5k per person with 4-5 people. So yeah that would be $5 per acre total.

Depends on what part of the panhandle. Far north and 80% of the birds are on 20% of the land (around trees basically, just like in Kansas). I wouldnt do more than $1.50 an acre there. If its more mid panhandle, Wellington, Claude, Lefors etc area, expect $2 to $2.50 an acre for the 7 weeks you can hunt.
