I got some of the New Hornady .452 396 sub X bullets loaded in my .45 Bandit rifle [ the cartridge that became the 460 S&W ] . I tried a different Idea , not sub-sonic but at 1800 fps . I test fired one through a gallon jug of water into ballistic gel . It blew the jug to bits and fragmented into the gel , all kinds of little trails . Got a shot at a 150 lb boar last night . I aimed back a little as a head shot would not tell much . At 80 yards it hit behind the shoulder and knocked the back side shoulder out of the socket . Lots of blood on the back side but just fragment holes . It gave the energy transfer I was looking for . No photo as it was 3am and misting out . I went back to bed .

Used the 395 subX again for one of the hogs I got . Night with just a feeder light at 125 yards , aiming for the big razorback boar in the herd . Lots of movement as they fought over the corn . Aimed at the head , hit the front lower jaw . Killed him right there and flipped him over . Not even a twitch . Lots of blood and it looked like it drove part of the jaw bone up into his brain . Photos now . [Linked Image] You can see the blood coming out above the eye .

Wow, one of the guys I was hunting with a couple weeks ago made a similar shot with a 5.56 and the hog just ran off after shaking it's head for a couple seconds.

That is why I developed the 45 Bandit cartridge about 20 years ago . The original load was the 300 XTP pistol bullet , at rifle velocities . As much impact power as I could get . It was always a one shot stop , rifle .

More info on the 45BNdit and the rifle please. I’m a huge fan of the 460 S&W

This is why head shots are always a bad idea.

Yes , I can see how it did not work . I was aiming for the base of the skull , but at 125 yards in the dark with a herd fighting over the food sometimes you can be off a little . That was the reason for the 45 Bandit cartridge , it gives you a little room for error . Back the other question . I had the idea 20 years ago . I developed the cartridge , the parent case was the 7.5x55mm cut down a little and opened up to a straight wall case . It headspaces on the case mouth . Made a reamer and built 5 rifles for myself and friends . I talked to S&W about doing the then new 500 S&W revolver in it and the said they had no need for a 45 version . A year later they did make it , they added a little rim to it for their case . I just cut the rim off of their case to make my cases now . I wanted them to make it a moon clip set up , but the said never . But then they did the .350 Legend with no rim . The best bullet I liked was the 300 XTP at 2150 fps out of my 16" carbine . I had not had my Bandit rifle out for years so the new 395 bullet was a reason to bring it out again .
