So, I am sitting on 27 points for CO. I grew up there and while I was active duty I could get free points due to being away from the state since it was my home of record. I piled up the points with the intention of getting one of the tags for Unit 2. Problem is work took me to TX and even with 27 points I doubt I can catch up to the point creep before I am too old to hunt effectively since I am already 62. I am 80% combat disabled due to Iraq and arthritis is setting into my knees, hips, one shoulder and I have 2 screws and a pin holding my right ankle together. I don't have many more years where I can handle the hiking, climbing, and packing. I don't want to be hauled around on a horse with a guide holding my hand.

I am asking advice on where I can best apply the points. I have killed a lot of elk in my life including my share of good bulls. I would like one more really good 6x6 (score not important) before I hang up elk hunting. I have no desire to hire a guide since I have always hunted on a DIY basis. So, if you had that many points and units 1,2,10 and 201 are off the table due to point creep, where you you apply them?

And the same question applies to deer since I have 22 points for them and I want to use them while I can still climb, hike, glass and pack out meat.

I don't have good answers to your question, but just fyi in case you havnt already seen it...you got three more seasons before colorado moves to the hybrid draw and your points become far less valuable...which which fits well with your plans to spend the points now...

What size bull are you targeting?

360+, I go 10 and hope for a turn back tag or You could draw bosque del oso, i hunted it for deer, saw 3 bulls over 350 and helped pack out a 310.

You know bosque already

play the cards on U2. if you dont draw out there you can always go private land hunt to get another good bull. I would suggest not to just waste the points on a somewhere new hunt. you said you can still do it so I suggest you will still be able to do it next year too
