Does anyone know of a reliable feeder that operates off a photocell? I bought a Wildgame Innovations feeder and set it outside to test it. After 3 days, it would only throw at dawn. So I returned it (Amazon), got a replacement, tried it for 3 days, and got the same result. The only other feeder I’ve found is an American Hunter but I need one that mounts by the two t-bars off the bottom of the barrel.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

I am curious as to why you prefer this over a conventional timer triggered feeder?

Almost all my backup feeders are photocell. I like the K.I.S.S. principle of it. Just put the feeder up, put a battery in it, and it's good. But for those I am using On Time Tomahawks. They have weak motors and don't throw much, or very far, which is what I want for those anyway. They also mount to the funnel on a post with a single screw, so I can easily pull the motors at the end of season or put them back easily the next season. Again K.I.S.S. But I would not want these for a main feeder.

I had a Game Country Day II feeder for many years that worked well. It gives a lot of control combined with a photocell for multiple feed times in relation to sunrise/sunset, but it used dip switches and was a pain to set. Still one option for you would be to keep the feeder you have and install the Day II controller in it.

The only reason I don't have mine anymore is because I left that feeder upside down in the weather for a summer letting standing water get caught in it ruining the timer. The control board was mounted uncovered in the unit and not in a box like the one in that link. I think I had it for maybe 15-20 years before that and never had a problem with it.
