Did you at least get a kiss? Or maybe I should ask if they used Vaseline.

147 hr is robbery. All they are doing is changing fluids and checking belt deflection

I have a 2018 Mule Pro and do the service myself, once a year. Air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, engine oil, differential oil and transaxle oil costs me 140.00 total. Takes me about 2 hours because I blow out the radiator fins, clean out the belly pan and wash it.

I did replace the starter last year and put a new drive belt on it while I had the primary apart.

'Had my CanAm serviced at Destination Cycle in Kerrville a couple of times. Last time was during Covid and they seemed to take it as an excuse to insanely increase their prices, and it took forever. It was ridiculous and I won't be back. 'Went back to the dealer in Boerne, even though it's a PITA to get in the driveway and turn around, but they were much more reasonable. My back and knees aren't allowing for much DIY lately.

I do the basic service work on my old Kubota RTV. I wish it wasn’t so low to the ground. Kubota fluids are darned expensive.

Yikes! I did all the maintenance on my diesel Mule. It took a couple of hours to change all the fluids. Dealer service is such a ripoff. I remember my ex-wife getting six spark plugs installed (all readily accessible) and a new air filter. They wanted to charge her almost $400. It might have taken 20 minutes. Service rep quoted her $60 for the air filter. I had bought one at Auto Zone a week before and it was in the trunk. I had paid $11.95 for it.

My 4 wheelers spend 99% of their life in a locked shipping container. We generally use them for about 1/2 hour of actual run time every 2 or 3 weeks when I get to the country.

I found out that I can maintain them myself. Why? Because, like you guys, I found that an elementary school dropouts labor cost at a dealership is obscene. No mas! And, they are mostly ‘make ready’ then actual mechanics. I had one problem that 3 dealerships couldn’t fix. I then took it to Mikes Off Road, an old friend. Mike Street has a large 4WD repair shop. Mike said it sounded like a solenoid. He changed that and no problemo since.

Maintenance is mostly oil, filters, grease gun and rag. Just like on my tractors. I do that.

Mike spent about 45 minutes of work and I’ve never made the kind of money per minute that the dealerships charge.

I'd like to see an itemized list of what they did for 7 hours!!!

I had a rear axle U-joint crater on our 2007 Mule. Big job, maintenance-wise, because of all the disassembly and reassembly of the entire rear end of the vehicle. IIRC, that job was also $1200 [but, to be fair, that was a few years ago].

When that Mule eventually needed front CV shaft replacements, I just did the work myself (and I am no mechanic!). It's amazing what all you can find on Youtube!

Took my Mule Pro in to dealer in Fredericksburg back in December. Replace torn cv boot in front, replace belt. $500 parts and later. Only work I’ve had done on it since purchased in 6/2017. It was more work than I wanted to do. I did replace the battery myself last summer.

171 in parts just sounds like the synthetic oils and filters for a full service. The labor cost is absolutely ridiculous. I can service everything on my Ranger in about an hour and I’m not any kind of a mechanic.

Everything on a service is DIY 100%. This country needs to get back to turning our own wrenches to make our vehicles great again ( and to save a bunch of money to boot).

I had my oil changed on my Grand Cherokee the other day, and had a coupon for $25.00 off. It came to almost $70, with the discount. They gave me the paperwork, with the results and recommended service which they claimed were either due or coming up. Front and rear diff fluid, trans fluid and filter, change the brake fluid, brake shoes and pads, and and two air filters, and the service rate is now 187.50/hour. $3000 total!!!

Yeah, I took my F-250 in to "Quick Lane" (which ain't quick) for an oil change. They recommended over $800.00 in additional services. It was due for none of them. 'Kid acted like someone was gonna cut his nuts off when I declined.

I paid about $500 for the 1000 mile service on my Ranger 570... Definitely felt like I had been ripped off for the actual work that was done, parts involved, etc.. but lesson learned.. I wont make that mistake again..

They also recommended all sorts of other work be done... they wanted to replace the spark plugs, replace front and rear brakes, etc..etc.. and quoted another $600 for their laundry list of items..

I looked at the brakes myself.. there's no significant wear on them worthy of replacement.. and the buggy has had zero problems stopping... there have been zero ignition problems, engine misfires, rough idling, etc that would indicate there is a spark plug problem.. etc...etc.. as I went down their list of recommendations, quite literally all of them were just made up junk.. zero justification for any of them..

Thats the last time I take the side by side to anyone for anything going forward I believe.. I'll just drain the fluids and replace them myself, do inspections, etc.. Id rather burn the time than put up with shiester service techs trying to sell me things I obviously don't need..

These types of folks, and their supposed business models, have no clue how many customers they're permanently running off.

Their latest ripoff is the checking of brakes on the service. They didn't check it off this time where they always had in the past. Said they can only see one side with the wheels on, so they stopped putting it down on the sheet. They want $39 to check brakes! I said just look at them when you rotate the tires, and they don't do that free anymore either. Quess what ????, $39 for that service also!!

those were exactly the sort of things they did with my 1000 mile service that added up and made the price tag ridiculous.. literally a 2 minute task with a $40 price associated, so that they could then lie to me and tell me that part needed to be replaced at an additional cost..

its my fault.. I took it in, asked for a "1000 mile service", didn't really pay attention to anything after that and thought it would be maybe $100-$200 depending on how in depth they went on things..

when it was all said and done the only thing they did of any value was an oil change (maybe a $50 value?) and put it on a computer to run diagnostics of some sort (maybe another $50 value?) and that's it.. everything else was just BS...

Lesson learned though.. that's the last time they'll see me or get another dollar..

unfortunately Ive had similar experiences with boat maintenance..

I bought a used boat from a dealer here in the DFW area a few years ago... ran it for about 3 months (through the spring fishing season).. and then started having a problem with it...

I was 90% certain all I needed was a prop job.. (a < $100 fix.. takes 10 minutes and about $50 in parts).. So I called the dealership...

the dealership told me they wont work on "used" mercury motors.. not even motors that they sold just 90 days earlier..

I called 3 other places before I could find anyone that would even look at the boat.. the one person I could get to look at it charged a $250 service fee just to look at it..

He agreed to apply that fee to any work he did, but it was otherwise non refundable.. so, my $100 prop job that took literally 10 minutes to diagnose and 10 minutes to fix, and involved a $48.50 bushing that needed to be replaced.. cost $250..

the next time I need a prop job done.. I'll just replace the bushing myself lol.. another lesson learned..

You can find service kits for your model on Amazon, they run around $120/130 bucks and have everything you need. The kit includes oil & air filters, spark plug, rubber gloves and oil. I have a local young man who works on engines, he charges $100 plus the service kit as well as lubing all the lube points. Less than $250.00 Dealerships are a rip off for sure.
