I am doing some work down the median of a four lane divided highway. Several months were spent getting permits and approval from the state to do this. We had to provide detailed information about what we would be doing, vehicles used, etc and they told us hazard lighting, signage requirements and other rules which we are in full compliance with.

We start work and after about an hour a state trooper pulls over one of our side by sides that was in the grass median decked out with flashing lights and guys in safety vests and is just a complete jerk. The guys were all yes sir no sir with him but he said you can’t have this on the road or right of way and the guys said we have a permit I have a picture of it on my phone I can show you and he replied if you want to argue I will just issue you a citation and have this thing impounded. Get somebody down here with a trailer now and get it out of here. He would not even look at our permit.

We didn’t know what to do and shut down and called our guy from the state that issued the permit. He said the trooper was full of crap and he would make some calls and straighten it out. This happened yesterday and the trooper drove by at least three times today and didn’t stop.

'Has nothing to do with being a cop/trooper. Some men refuse to admit when they're wrong. I would say it's low self-esteem, but one or two guys on here get really bent outa shape. (One has become just a lurker.) They have low self-esteem.

I like to FW the ones that are idiots and morons! No common sense whatsoever! ie...leave a suspect in the po po cruiser parked on railroad tracks and let's a train hit the patrol car. That was epic, potential perp got no billed and paid big $,$$$,$$$ on that incident! Idiots!

I thought all cops joined because they want to serve the people. Not because they want to control others and make up for their inadequacy.

Why are some oilfield workers douches? What are some construction workers douches? Why are some gas station employees douches? Douches are in every field and we all know that. I’m sure you have ran across a douche in more than more occupation…

They are in every profession. Some people cannot handle even a modicum of power regardless of job.

It is a thankless Job and they never know what they are walking up on. That said, He was not one of the good ones IMHO

I certainly have but other occupations don't have the power over the general population that cops do. I get that they have a tough job and I have no issue with them giving it back to people who treat them poorly but when a person is being respectful to them and they act this way that is just unprofessional. Being in a position like they have you should be held to a higher standard and act better.

Troopers sometimes take traffic related offenses a bit too seriously. If the only tool you can use is a hammer, everything starts looking like a nail. If the incident was told to you there might be another side to the coin though.

This - my son is an LEO so I have been around a lot of cops - the vast majority of them are hard working and respectful - out of tens of thousands of them of course there will be a few who do not handle things well. If you feel you get mistreated by an LEO then contact their boss

My dad was a cop. Growing up cops were all I knew. I spent 1/2 my life between my dad and his best friend (also a cop) sitting in the front seat of a pick up truck going everywhere. When I was a kid I wanted to be one and they were my hero's. I have a bias for them in all situations and always start out thinking they are right until proven otherwise. Last July 4th for the first time in my life I wanted to punch a cop. My wife and I were leaving a public event where there were 1000's of people and way too many trying to leave the same exit at a parking lot. It was clearly our turn to pull from my parking spot when this fat woman exited her parked vehicle and stood with her huge a-- up against my front bumper blocking me from leaving while her friend attempted to pull out. I laid on my horn.............and kept laying on it as I moved forward, gently. The sh-- went down hill quick. Others in her vehicle got out, I didn't but was vocal from the drivers seat, never cussed or shouted, just spoke to these people. I was way out numbered. This went on for a good 60 seconds and a cop walks up and as he was very close to my face basically cussed me out. Used the F word probably 20 times in front of my wife, threatened me with jail if I didn't calm down..............I never raised my voice or cussed, all I did from the start of the confrontation was honk my horn. He did tell me he was F-n' hot, tired and that he wanted to go home but wouldn't mind taking me to jail. I was 100% compliant and yes sir'd him the whole time. He made the fat woman get in her vehicle and let me pull out in front of her friend. I was really offended at the way he talked in front of my wife, his language was something that could get someone arrested, IMO.

Like he said, he was hot and tired. I forgive him. If he had not had his name tag concealed by a wet towel I would have tried to contact him later and had a talk about how he acted.

I've arrested and fired more bad cops than you have ever run across. Professional Standards is a real thing. If you don't like the way you were treated it does no good to complain on THF. Just like this is also a stupid place to ask for medical and legal advice. Most agencies have a place to make a complaint on their website or better yet, go to the agency in person and ask for a supervisor.

Control freak

The hiring process to be a cop is rigorous. I'd give 1,000 -1 odds that you wouldn't make it past the first interview if that far. Background, credit, interviews with references and neighbors, psych profile, so much investigation into a hire, the interview boards and polygraph..... I had a high ranking officer on our department tell me of an officer they fired. Seems she bought a jeep, tricked it out with about 10k in accessories, filed bankruptcy and stopped paying on the modifications. Fired her.

Sheriff's Deputies seem to be the worst group, as percentages go. I'm trying to remember a HiPo that I've dealt with that wasn't at least somewhat cordial, and none come to mind in nearly 40 years of driving.

I must be sheltered. My experiences have been good, very good. Lots of them.
