sounds about normal for most heelers I've known. Ours thought she was the baddest motor scooter on the planet towards other animals and some people trying to enter our yard when she was younger. She was a cat / coon / armadillo / possum / etc. killing machine ... she is now 16.5 years old and deafer than a box of rocks, gets along with cats (not coons / possum / armadillo), she still acts like a puppy jumping even though her hips are starting to fail. She is part of the family and will be sorely missed when her time comes. I truly love the breed except for the shedding.

My last dog was sweet to everyone. If you could pet her, you had a friend.

She’s in this picture

I think it is the dark uniforms that set them off.

I guess the blue healer we had did not get the message. He was as sweet as could be. Now, my wife had one when we first met. That dog had a s_ _ _ list and you did not want to be on it.

Heelers are a unique breed for sure. Their protective instincts, fearlessness, and persistence are rivaled by only a couple of other breeds out there. Mine was no exception, and very typical of the behavior cited by the OP. To many their "enthusiasm" can be seen as a liability, but that's only when the owner isn't the one in control. Once a pecking order is established and you get them past the Velociraptor stage they are among the greatest companions in the K9 world.

One thing that always stood out about mine. She hated Bo Pilgrim. Driving down the highway if I pulled up on a Pilgrim's Pride truck that had the large image of Bo on the back she would go completely bonkers. She had a most other quirks common to the breed, but was absolutely the best dog I've ever had, and I've had Rotties, Goldens, Basset, and currently a GSD. All great dogs too though.
