Look back at 2023 & 2024...how many "Christian" churches had ethics issues in the DFW area alone? Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house!

I stay out of Catholic conversations as best as possible as shown in this thread if you say anything contrary it’s “you hate Catholics”

Question though for the Catholic collective on this thread. I see a couple of opinions which is very common throughout American conservative ideas that this is a “bad pope” which everyone should have an honest opinion of him and there is nothing wrong with that.

But Catholic faith teaches that the Pope is of Gods will. They believe the Pope is infallible.

So if this is a “bad pope” or that the Catholics have elected a “bad pope” previously.

Does that poke a hole in the entire idea of a pope?

The pope is only in infallible when making certain doctrinal decisions. Has only happened a couple times in the last 2000 years.

I was born Catholic, raised Catholic and Catholic school educated and never been taught or even heard the Pope is of God's will or infallible. He is just a holy man that is elected and voted in by his peers. Nothing more, nothing less.

That said, there is some horrific history in the church, just like any other organization run by man.

I no longer go to a Catholic church as I find very little teaching. I prefer the nondenominational churches where we get a solid 45 minute teaching.

You “idea” of infallibility is wrong, It is not him as a person and only in regards to defining doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church, better question would be when was the last time a Pope went ex cathedra… with that said he has no power to introduce new doctrine, can only define/clarify

In a nut shell he is not infallible as the Pope or a person, only in doctrine dispute essentially

With that said not a fan of current Pope. Stay out of sovereignty if you aren’t willing to open up your own

Learned a few new things first link I read said Catholics believe the pope is infallible and that his election is appointed through man by God. As I read more that gets convoluted. It was an honest question and you’ll have to forgive my ignorance as I’m used to reading theology through the scriptures.

Well technically we are only given two actual choices, wither we accept Jesus or not, rest is God will… per scripture whistle

Well said. I grew up an LCMS Lutheran. Joined the Catholic church in high school, and returned to the LCMS later in life. Everyone on my dads side is Catholic and I went to a Catholic high school. Martin Luther got it right.

I’m curious about something. I notice that priests or popes or whatever (I admit that I don’t know. I just hear it a lot.) are referred to as father. Why? I thought that we only had one real father, and that was God. Why would we refer to anyone else as father, other than our dads or God?
