Buzz, here are some additional suggestions:
- For lodging, on the Riverwalk itself, I would suggest La Mansion. Historic hotel that is right on the riverwalk and has access.
- For mexican food, Soluna is the best and yes, the chispas are damn good and strong. I would also look into a boat tour and meal. I believe Casa Rio offered a meal on the riverboat with a selective menu picked prior. You can have your meal and get a tour of all downtown with a guide giving you the history of the city. Not sure who runs that now but would be worth looking into.
- For steaks, look at 1718 Steakhouse. It is on the 3rd floor of the Crocket hotel across the street from the Alamo. Its an amazing view with decent food. Brenner's on the Riverwalk is good as well.
You can stop at the Manger Hotel before hand and have a drink at the bar. That is where Teddy Roosevelt and Rough Riders used to hang out. I would also recommend going to the Pearl. Look at the restaurants and pick a place to eat. A must is going to Hotel Emma and having a drink at their bar, amazing atmosphere.

- Z
