I've literally shot "the broad side of a barn" instead of an opossum.

I have shot my yard feeder. Did it twice. Patches worked fine. I was doing coon removal, but I misjudged the location of the coon relative to the feeder -twice. It was dark…

There's got to be a story behind this. Please include pics! Ha! no story behind it but DNS and I were recently on hogs and one of them decided to run in front of his truck and during the shooting he asks me for a general location of the runner and I calmly reply “he running at your truck” to which he responds “oh… great” in a semi-concerned tone Here is a screen grab from the video from my scope Got me to thinking that surely someone out there has challenged their inner Robin Hood . . .

I have shot out my side mirror with an AR shooting at running pigs out of the truck on the ranch. Didn't even realize I had done it at first either.

You just reminded me that I shattered a side mirror on my dodge shooting out of a truck The ejected piece of brass hit it just right to spider crack it Note: that’d be a right side ejecting AR from the driver seat , if of been fine if shooting from the passenger side

No but got tired of waiting for the hogs to stop climbing the feeder legs so I could get a shot.

They were on a parade route right into the middle of my pasture where we had lost 12 bales of haygrazer to feral swine the week before. I was out. for. blood! I was doing pretty well for off handed shooting out the driver window. 6 died, 4 more were hit. I quit shooting when I saw the chrome cap of the driver's side mirror housing fly off. Fortunately I was alone and nothing but the pigs, dirt on my misses, and truck were the only things in harm's way. The mirror cap is just cosmetic and i didn't get any glass or operative components. I violated the rule about knowing what was downrange for a split second. It was the least safe I have ever felt with a firearm. I play it off as humorous, but target fixation is real and the temporary loss of situational awareness in the moment rattled me.

Shot hole in floorboard, getting gun out window! Was about 18. Knocked a piece of the trans bell housing off. Guess I missed the torque converter, never had a problem.

I got a buddy with three holes in the bed of his truck from using the truck as a gun rest and not thinking about the scope being a couple inches higher than the barrel.
He did one, and a land owner that lets us hunt on his land did the other two.

Well, I did shoot a hole in the toe of my right tennis shoe. Living along the Mississippi River, my hometown was right along the Levee. The town dump was on the other side of the Levee. I went over to shoot cans and bottles. Maybe I was about 15. As I headed back to the town side, a car full of girls (the entire cheerleading team) met me. I was in heaven. I rested the muzzle of my trusty Stevens 87D on the end of my Converse All Star shoe while we talked. When they started to leave, I picked up the rifle, and I suppose I had pressure on the trigger, and BANG. The girls asked if I was Ok and then left. When they were gone, I saw a hole in the end of the shoe and a bit of gunsmoke coming out. I shucked off the shoe, and the bullet had missed my toes.

I had an old POS VW Beetle many years ago. It was basically put together out of parts from several different year models.
It was a real PITA to own and drive and I thought it should have a bullet hole in it.
So I shot it.

Luckily it was my ranch truck. I don't think I ever even got it fixed.

Before I retired, Co. hired a guy with a Crown Vic - yup, couple 'holes' in it - and testicles hanging off the rear bumper. He didn't last long.

I put a 2 nice holes through the tow mirror of my truck one time. I saw the hog perfectly through my thermal scope, right over the top of the tow mirror. I pulled the trigger and the pig didn't move. I squeezed off a second round and that one didn't hit him. He just walked back into the woods with no urgency. When I pulled the rifle back into the truck I had 2 holes through the tow mirror right next to each other.

My brother shot 2 holes through the hood of our 1985 F150 about 12 years ago. We were driving through the pasture and saw some hogs.. he got out and laid the rifle over the hood of the truck, shot twice, and didn't realize the scope was higher than the barrel. Thankfully no hits to engine block or anything major. Ran duct tape over the holes for a long time but finally did some body work on the truck a few months ago and patched them up!

Took a friend out for his first night hunt using NV and a pair of 6.8 ARs. The action got pretty good when a big sounder of 18-20 came in about 10PM. Noticed the next evening that the cell connected game camera didn't send any pics. Went to check on it and it was pointing at the ground and noticed battery pack on the ground. Got closer and noticed hole thru camera.

Vern1 - those cell cams weren’t cheap in the early days , probably more than a side mirror on a dodge for sure !

Watched a deer lease member skip four or five .270 bullets off the hood of his truck, trying to sight in his rifle.

40+ years ago. My buddy driving, me in the middle, his little brother against window driving down a dirt trail on way back from deer hunt. Little brother blasted a hole through floorboard and blew out front tire of pickup. Windows were up and I could not hear for a week...I think that was when my tinnitus started.

Out several years ago with a buddy and his adult son for some target practice at the farm. Son lays his rifle across the roof of his car to aim. My buddy tells his son "Don't do that, the muzzle blast will burn the paint right off of the car! Don't ask how I know that."
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

"I think that was when my tinnitus started." Or from walking under a 5"/38 when it goes off. Did have an unintended discharge from AR10, took out a chunk of concrete. Dropped the bolt when pointed down.

Had a hunter on our ranch lay the barrel of his win mag with a muzzle break across his brand new pickup hood. Did not go well. Wish I had a pic to share but it was pre-cellphone camera days. Left a gnarly looking scorch mark.

Ever hear about the guy who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn? That would not be me.

Late morning, no deer to be seen but a coon was under the protein feeder so decided it wasn't his lucky day. Put the cross hairs on him and squeezed one off, he didn't even move but I heard the bullet hit something. Last thing I shot before that day was the 500 yard steel target and never reset the elevation. Put a hole through the feeder tube, but saved me from missing a deer the next day...
