Well, I did shoot a hole in the toe of my right tennis shoe. Living along the Mississippi River, my hometown was right along the Levee. The town dump was on the other side of the Levee. I went over to shoot cans and bottles. Maybe I was about 15. As I headed back to the town side, a car full of girls (the entire cheerleading team) met me. I was in heaven. I rested the muzzle of my trusty Stevens 87D on the end of my Converse All Star shoe while we talked. When they started to leave, I picked up the rifle, and I suppose I had pressure on the trigger, and BANG. The girls asked if I was Ok and then left. When they were gone, I saw a hole in the end of the shoe and a bit of gunsmoke coming out. I shucked off the shoe, and the bullet had missed my toes. God blessed man with 2 heads, but only enough blood to run 1 at a time.

Watched a deer lease member skip four or five .270 bullets off the hood of his truck, trying to sight in his rifle.

40+ years ago. My buddy driving, me in the middle, his little brother against window driving down a dirt trail on way back from deer hunt. Little brother blasted a hole through floorboard and blew out front tire of pickup. Windows were up and I could not hear for a week...I think that was when my tinnitus started.

Out several years ago with a buddy and his adult son for some target practice at the farm. Son lays his rifle across the roof of his car to aim. My buddy tells his son "Don't do that, the muzzle blast will burn the paint right off of the car! Don't ask how I know that."
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

"I think that was when my tinnitus started." Or from walking under a 5"/38 when it goes off. Did have an unintended discharge from AR10, took out a chunk of concrete. Dropped the bolt when pointed down.

Had a hunter on our ranch lay the barrel of his win mag with a muzzle break across his brand new pickup hood. Did not go well. Wish I had a pic to share but it was pre-cellphone camera days. Left a gnarly looking scorch mark.
To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.www.NewHopeEquine.com - Health and Healing through Horses.

Ever hear about the guy who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn? That would not be me.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Late morning, no deer to be seen but a coon was under the protein feeder so decided it wasn't his lucky day. Put the cross hairs on him and squeezed one off, he didn't even move but I heard the bullet hit something. Last thing I shot before that day was the 500 yard steel target and never reset the elevation. Put a hole through the feeder tube, but saved me from missing a deer the next day...
