I don’t give financial advice, but as a longtime tech guy in the AI space, the release of DeepSeek R1 is likely to be disruptive, especially in the short term. It could impact NVIDIA's stock price and the broader AI/tech market.
Be cautious—this might drive market volatility. If you’re not following it, I’d suggest doing some research on DeepSeek and how it could put downward pressure on $NVDA and many tech stocks due to reduced GPU demand and much cheaper API costs.

Not real big into professional use AI, but in the process of furthering my portfolio for cloud security, etc. Anything you think might spill over into the server realms?

It wasn't financial advice, but Nvidia lost $432 billion in worth today, lol.
What a call out, BM. Nice!

Are y’all sure the Chinese are being truthful? Pending tariffs, TikTok ban, Panama Canal, and probably other negative China stuff Trump has thrown out there. IMHO this is a big well timed shot over our bow in response. No doubt there is some intentional market manipulation with this. A lot of lies with just enough truth to make it seem feasible to the market. Like grossly understating how many Nvidia chips are being used could be one example. It certainly was effective.

My .02 cents. Deep Seek will be the Temu of AI. Low quality cheap Chinese junk version of fully developed AI.

Yes - buy the dip. Government just announced a Fedramp-ish type of OpenAI as well, and they would never rely on Chinese junk that can't respond to CCP sanctioned questions.

I would normally say sure, but there has been a sizeable tech bubble for quite some time. Nvidia isn't getting silicone from the United States, the China argument is irrelevant. Tariffs will affect the entire segment.

. . Nvidia isn't getting silicone from the United States, the China argument is irrelevant. Tariffs will affect the entire segment. Has nothing to do with any perceived need for Nvidia to secure Chinese silicon and everything to do with what is being reported as China no longer having a need for the chips it couldn't get from the US. Trust the Chi-coms all you want - we'll see.

“DeepSeek collects extensive data, including keystrokes straight to Chinese servers.” Not only does DeepSeek collect "text or audio input, prompt, uploaded files, feedback, chat history, or other content that [the user] provide[s] to our model and Services," but it also collects information from your device, including "device model, operating system, keystroke patterns or rhythms, IP address, and system language." https://mashable.com/article/deepseek-ai-privacy-policy-keystroke-data-chinese-servers

I was at an AI conference in the Peoples’ Republic of Austin and met a couple for dinner not associated with the conference. She quit a half million dollar job at 31 and is now heavily in the IT sector. He is the CEO of an IT company with a billion dollar cap rate. I know each very well and will tell them their observations are incorrect.

Nvidia chips are made in Taiwan by TSMC. If Trump goes forward with Tariffs on Taiwan, it could create a problem. TSMC is building a semiconductor manufacturing complex in Arizona, but it takes time to finish something that big. Especially dealing with the usual American/Arizona regulation issues always in the way. https://www.tsmc.com/static/abouttsmcaz/index.htm

You could be playing golf with Elon Musk tomorrow and the chips would still not be manufactured by Nvidia themselves here in the U.S. China makes up 12% of their market share. If they gain the ability to make something comparable or better, not only will they stop buying it, they'll start selling it to people for less. Whatever they're up to, got priced in over a 48hr period, to the tune of $600B. Forgive me if I don't think the CEO of a company has more insight than the institutions that traded 600 times what his company is worth in 2 days.

Here, I think we are somewhat on the same page only saying it a different way. It's not just the potential loss of the 12% Chinese market share which caused deep concerns for the market valuation. We'll be able to detail the potential for the Chinese "veracity" quickly.
