There was a C&S Hardware at Belt Line and Coit in Dallas that had a gun dept in the '70s. That's where my Father bought my first gun. In the early '80s they closed down the gun dept and sold the guns at good prices but really discounted Ammo. I picked up a bunch of .30-30, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag and .22 lr.
OMG, I can't believe I forgot about C&S. I bought my Colt Python and Colt Government 1911, .45ACP. Larry Rigsby was there at that time. I paid $600 for my 6" Python. Loved that place, had reloading stuff too.

Back in the 70’s ther3 was a old Mom & Pop gas station and sporting goods store down in the Eastland area, South of there if I remember right. They were closing the b store and retiring if I remember right. I stopped in to see what they had. I bought a 20 “ skeet barrel for my 1100 Lt 20 ga. The old man said since it’s a 20 ga. How about $20 . I said sure. He also had a couple of Garcia 5000s and a black 5000C. I $20 apiece for them too. Never made a better deal in my life.
some people like silver and gold I like brass and lead with a little powder in between

Hey glad you brought that up, grew up in south Austin area in early 70's, remember it well, my parents got my first Sheridan air rifle there for christmas in early 70's, blued edition, think it was 28.99 on sale. Just last summer had the seals replaced in that gun. Great times then!....... Also every time you purchased a box of .22 shells you had to sign a log purchasing .22 ammo for the feds. Required because .22 ammo could be used in handguns! what joke then.....

Academy on Congress Ave Max Gochman used to stand on a coke case and survey his domain, Davis Hardware Congress Ave, Gulf Mart N Lamar, these place were in Austin in the 50s and 60s when Austin was small Yeah, I remember when 'Academy' was just two small stores in Austin. (circa 1968) Called 'Academy Surplus' back then because they were basically just Army/Navy Surplus stores.

There are a couple of stores in Junction, Texas that have hunting stuff that are real interesting. One is a hardware store that sells hunting clothes and guns. The other is an old station that sells feed and every type of feeding equipment that is made----motors, activators, coon cages, blind, etc. Love to go in these establishments and look at the old and new stuff.

So much of my youth was purchased at Gibson's, LOL. It left such an impression on me that even now in my mid-50's every trip to Kerrville or Weatherford is planned around a trip to the last 2 remaining Gibson's I am aware of. I Just the other day was trying to explain to my kid what a true department store of my childhood (Sears, Monkey Wards, Woolworth's) was like. She was amazed that not only did they have everything you could need in one store, you could even have lunch!

In Denton T& Sons on the square. I bought my first deer rifle there at 16. A Marlin Gold Trigger 30.30. I still have and use that rifle from time to time today.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.
