Was on a couple leases with a fellow for several years that was there when JFK was shot. He is actually referenced in more than one book about the topic. His theory is the 2nd (or 3rd?) shot was an accidental discharge from one of the SS officers AR/m16 riding behind JFK, and that is the reason the SS discontinued using AR/m16's after the assassination. He still has no explanation though about the girl walking into the Depository when everyone else was rushing out - but he did say it "just didn't look right" and that it has always stuck with him. ![confused2 confused2](/forum/images/graemlins/default/confused2.gif) https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth338416/m1/1/

88.43 yards But with a worn out Carcano I've shot moving targets with scoped, bolt action rifles. It is easy to miss.

88.43 yards But with a worn out Carcano It was a surplus Carcano but not worn out. My sister used an almost identical one for a hunting rifle for years. It was quite accurate. Also, Oswald's shot was not a side shot shot. It was from behind at a very slow-moving target. Much easier to hit.

And I’ve taken a lot of running shots An offhand shot with a 4x scope at 88 yards at a moving target and scored a headshot? I’m not buying it. Also, watch the tapes. He gets shot from behind and then his head jerks back? Shot came from the front.

Does anyone actually believe there will be any new revelations?
If this was really a conspiracy, then any documents or people are long gone. I don't believe we will see any new, revealing information. The subject is an infinite loop of arguments and discussions.

88.43 yards I have a background in counter sniper operations, have shot at moving targets, far away targets, uphill, downhill, running location to location then shooting, so I had an interest in this shooting most of my life. An examination of the location did not make me believe it was a difficult operation to accomplish. :My 2cents:

I’ve often wondered what an unbiased professional’s opinion would be? I’ve watched numerous documentaries and it’s about 50/50 on whether a pro says that Lee harvey could have pulled it off successfully

Not that I have the time, but I could recreate the shot. My buddy's ranch in Sanderson, TX would allow for the sixth floor elevation. There's a road right in the bottom of the canyon about that distance from the canyon wall I'd be on. I'm sure the information is out there as to the speed of the limousine. We would tow a trailer well behind a UTV. I would even handicap myself with a similar scope. 88 yards is an archery shot for many THF members.
It would be an interesting experiment.

Oswald did qualify as sharpshooter in the Marine Corps. A few years later he scored lower and was rated as marksman. But I believe he didn't care at that point. A much older fishing buddy of mine was at a shooting range in Dallas with a friend practicing with their deer rifles and the next one over was Oswald. They chatted with him and saw the rifle or something like it. They did later on get interviewed by the FBI so he said. Check this out. https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/...e-book-warren-commission-exhibit-no-239/

He gets shot from behind and then his head jerks back? Shot came from the front. This was not a running shot OR an offhand shot. Go to the sixth floor and take a look. Oswald built a sniper's hide and shot from a rest, avoided the side shot, and waited until he had a straight-on shot. Txtropy85 - you're a good shot. Take a 6.5 Creedmoor to the range, set up a pie plate size target at 88 yards, dial your scope to 4x magnification, and hit the target 1 out of three times. I bet you will have no trouble at all. It's been proven many times that the backward head jerk was really from JFK's whole body stiffening from the shock of being shot. Also read the autopsy report. The entrance wound was in the back of the skull. It is impossible to happen if shot from the grassy knoll.

I was always pretty hesitant to buy into the conspiracy theories about JFK. That is, until I visited Dealy Plaza about 12 years ago. When I stood in the window of that book depository it was clear to me that there is no way Oswald was the shooter. At least not the only shooter. From that window there is absolutely NO WAY a shooter waits for that motorcade to turn the corner. You absolutely take the shot while he's coming down Houston Street. Head on, straight shot from an elevated position! My 10 YO grandson could make that shot. One shot to the head or heart, from back in the room where you have cover. No one would ever know where the shot came from. By the time they figure it out you're long gone. The only reason to wait until they turned the corner was go give a shooter on the "grassy knoll" a clean, head on shot!

A coming-towards-you shot is harder to do. You constantly have to re-adjust your sight picture at a downward angle. Plus you have the windshield and rollbar in the way. A moving away shot gives you an un-obstructed line of fire and you only need to re-adjust your sight picture a small amount. My guess is that Oswald tried the first and then opted for the second when he couldn't get a clear shot.

If something is going to be hidden from public view, it’s never been in a document to begin with. Unless it’s created by someone for a bargaining chip to be used at a later time. If LHO was working with some other entity I doubt it will be revealed in this. You may not have been around in the 1960s, I was, it was a different world than today. I believe it is all there in black and white, if not we would not know all the other connections outlined in the Warren Report, and other FBI reports already released. If Oswald was actually a patsy, he was a very poor choice with his background. I have said many times, and I truly believe that the government doesn't have to be involved in the assassination, they simply have to allow it to happen, there are numerous assassins around the country at any given time willing to do evil. If you want to protect the President of the United States, you don't place all your SS agents in one vehicle behind the president, they certainly were not working the crowd on that fateful day. Oswald was in the civil air patrol with David Ferrie and Barry Seal. Both of the latter having known ties to the CIA later in life, Barry Seal being a key player in the Iran Contra scandal that came to light during the Reagan administration, among other things. Given Oswald's military record and post-military actions in life, no way he was just flying under the radar (pun intended). He was an operative, whether he was part of the assassination or ignorantly playing some other role that day.

I certainly hope there is new/old evidence in the files that has never been made public, but now will be.
The back and forth in this topic gives me reason to "discover/learn."

Multiple shooters from different angles covering both escape routes. Target in crossfire situation. No cover in front of the target. Almost impossible for the target to escape. Just my 2 cents. I thought the investigation also showed the rifle wasn't even zeroed? Well, if you throw a rifle to the floor behind boxes with a 4-dollar scope, it probably isn't going to hold zero...

All of this other BS aside.
How many THF'ers in this thread believe the magic bullet theory? An almost pristine bullet after creating all those different wounds? Found laying on a gurney in the hospital?
That's assuming the trajectory was/is plausible.
