You can...the thing that has always bothered me. If the AT&T network gets busy there is a priority...it's the First Responder's Network and then AT&T customers...I don't know beyond that but rest assured there is a pecking order of priority for the other providers that lease AT&T towers....to that point, Verizon too.

Yep, sometimes just an inquiry can result in savings.

I'm up here north half way between Sherman and Gainesville. In the past, coverage has been a problem with all the carriers except AT&T. Has the coverage for other carriers improved from the past? I know they do share towers. etc. Both Verizon and T mobile show coverage in my area. What they don't tell you is how good the coverage is.

In 2007 when we bought our place AT&T was the only thing that worked there. Recently we have had folks with Verizon, cricket, T-mobile at least and probably more out and they all work now.

Neighbor worked in IT for Verizon. 1 day I noticed he had ATT. I asked him why not employee plan with Verizon. He said he did not have service at house.

At 1 time I only had 2 bars in my house with ATT. I emailed them and asked why since I lived in Rockwall County not exactly the boonies. 1 year later they emailed me that I would be happy to know that they put up a new tower. Now 4 bars.

It’s old data, but when I had to negotiate a national cell phone deal for our corporation, AT&T and Verizon had roughly equal coverage areas in the US. The others didn’t, and we needed as much coverage as possible. That meant it was one or the other. Costs were about the same for phones and plans, but AT&T had that you could bank unused minutes, so long term coverage favored them. I don’t know if research today would result in the same answer I got, but I’ve been told that the company still uses the contract, though I’m sure they’ve made changes to fit today’s market.

If your required coverage area, Houston for instance, is where you roam, the minor cell companies can probably provide what you need. If you are on the road a lot, for business or vacation, I don’t know what the minor players can provide. Things have changed since I retired, I’m sure, but the big networks are still Verizon and AT&T.

My wife, knowing full well that I was ‘the cell phone contract guy’, decided one day to go with T-Mobile. She bragged about saving money. We were in the car, heading out of town. I told her that pretty soon she’d need to borrow my phone, and she laughed. It wasn’t long till she said she had lost coverage, and I passed over my AT&T phone. One of those wonderful “I told you so” moments. She went back to AT&T.

Switched from AT&T to Cricket a couple years ago, 2 lines , and charges dropped in half. Same coverage. Unlimited. $80 bucks a month.

I recently got rid of our home phone. That was way overdue. Wife and I each have cell phones, each a computer, and my IPad and laptop.

Been with Sprint/T-Mobile for as long as I've had a cell phone. I'm $90 mo. unlimited with insurance.

It is good as most. When I go hunting around the state It can get sketchy but works.
