Outside of Lubbock yesterday. What a mess. I think landowners should be held responsible for this. Imagine if you kept your property nice and clean and a neighbor let the weeds grow rampant and crap like this blew on to your place?

Hoping he’s not serious about that statement.

I am 100% for private property rights and own close to 400 acres so I know the work it entails to maintain. I think people should be able to do whatever they want with their property but if they neglect it and literally multiple semi loads of crap from their place blows on to mine that isn’t cool.
I am not suggesting a tumbleweed police nor do I have an issue with the random one here and there but is someone has acres of nothing but solid tumbleweeds it is a nuisance to the neighbors.

I’m from that area; about 20 miles from Muleshoe and those things, actually Russian thistles, can travel for a lot of miles before winding up at your place. Mostly on undeveloped grazing land. Farmers plow and spray weeds. On large, open grazing land, theres not much that can be done.
As they tumble, they drop seeds. Just Mama Nature at work.
May as well outlaw flies, mosquitos, Winos, Junkies, Democrats, and noxious weeds.

Do you also want landowners to be responsible for keeping the soil in place? If one guy sandfights after a rain and his neighbor doesn’t and the next windy day is blowing across his neighbors place to his, should the neighbor get in trouble for partially blowing him out?

I’ll be dang. He’s serious about this. Maybe I did a poor job of explaining it. Tumbleweeds are going to happen. I have some in my pastures. That isn’t my gripe. They rarely lead to situations like this photo. Adjacent to this road is a 320 acre field that the farmer just abandoned and became solid thistle. 320 acres of solid tumbleweeds blowing on to your place or even blocking a public road isn’t a laughing matter. I have a 15’ batwing shredder and have tried mowing down piles of them on the road that leads to my place before and it is a nightmare. They ball up and get stuck in front of the shredder. It is very difficult to deal with. I feel that if it is an abnormal abundance of them that clearly came from a specific neglected property they should bear some responsibility for it. I am not at all saying if I find a couple dozen tumbleweeds in my fence they should go track down where they came from.

I also understand that you said you are 100% in favor of property owners rights. Well, you can’t have it both ways. Either they can do what they want, or they can do what you want. Do you want anyone telling you what you can or can’t do with your property?

We have had them pile up against the Ranch house and house fences. Had to use the tractor to get them off.

I guess tumbleweeds in west Texas are the same as tree leaves in the suburbs. I dont have any Red Oaks in my yard but I have millions of Red Oak leaves every year.

Reminds me Myself and the adjoining landowner, were always accusing each others wild pigs of tearing up our fields. Of course we are smiling when doing so
