This is like parents and the government sitting are listening to records backwards in the 80s..... something is always gonna be misunderstood, and demonized. When it's just another generation passing you by.

That makes sense and could apply to various activities like gambling but I bet the most prevalent is gaming addiction.

There’s nothing wrong with playing a video game for entertainment as long as it’s well balanced with other activities like reading, TV, outdoors, chores, family etc.

What about reading a novel? Would the same apply?

No. Not even remotely close to the same.

How so? Did you know that reading, particularly fiction, is an acknowledged form of escapism? An escape from reality? But even reading can be taken to excess.

The difference is immersing yourself into defeating a fantasy. I don’t get it and doubt I ever will. What exactly have you accomplished if you succeed?

Passing you by would be no great chore.

100% and it's usually just people being too insecure to just enjoy something due to it being seen as "nerdy." Same ones that can't enjoy a game of chess or listening to classical music.

Being a "gamer" doesn't mean you sit in the dark pissing into an empty 2 liter of mountain dew, it just means you enjoy video games.

No, I don't.

I lost interest before college.

However, if I had the 80s "Galaga or Gorf" arcade machines now, I'd use them.

I understand why some people, especially those over 45, might not fully appreciate video games, but having worked in tech for years, I can tell you gaming has evolved significantly. It’s not just about entertainment, it’s a way to sharpen problem-solving skills and connect with others.

I personally play a lot of survival games, and lately, I’ve been into Valheim. I even got a private server from this site that I share with my friends for a much smoother experience. It’s faster and lag-free.

I think it's also worth mentioning that warfare is heading in that direction with military drones. Not saying that's a good thing or not but it's coming either way.
