100 Percent agree with Chad on the 2nd post. .308 all the way !

I remember similar discussions 50 years ago , 270 Vs 30 06. I read lots of Jack O'Conner back then , thats why my first rifle was a 270.
I ended up using it as a varmint rifle , so the lighter bullets made sense to me.
I think you can't go wrong with either of those calibers.

His logic is sound, first and foremost you want to kill what you're shooting at. Under his scenario he's encouraging a choice of a bullet that does a better job once it hits the cavity over a bullet that may do a better job before it hits the cavity.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Whatever you hit won’t know the difference. I’m personally a 30-06 fan but have a bunch of others

Ok 308 for the win. Going out to the shop to pull a heavy 308 barrel off the Remington 700 action and putting a Mountain rifle contour barrel on it.

Rick as much of a 7-08 fan as I am, I had great success with a T3 Lite in .308. If you’re not shooting extended ranges then it’s the way to go. .338 Federal falls in that category also.

Well so much for that. Couldn't find the recoil lug I had for that barrel. However the 7-08 headspaced just fine. Will be testing loads soon.

Shot some loads to fireform my brass to the chamber . 40.0 grs of IMR4895 with 130 gr. Speer Hotcors. Then sighted in with 150 grain Ballisttic tips on top of the same charge. So far so good. Trigger is a Timney that has been used on a bench gun for years and it goes off a bit sooner than I am used to.

Well I loaned out my 308 reamer and can't get ahold of the guy I loaned it to. Him being a car/ motorcycle delivery driver. And I have another 700 action laying around, all I have to do is get rid of the brand new 1-8 243 barrel on it and make it a 308 when my reamer gets home. Then as is my usual way of doing things I can have both.

308 has more bullet choices that almost any other caliber.. hands down 308.
Nothing wrong with the 7mm, just bullet availability for me.
