Before it gets too hot or too wet in the springtime, things need to be done. First, paint that deer blind again if it needs it or put up a new blind right now. Clean out your blind and close the windows and doors to keep owls and wasps out as well as rain. Take a steel brush and get rid of those rust spots on your corn feeder, pellet feeder or whatever feeder. Brush on a new coat of "Rustoleum" paint on that feeder and legs. Put a "new" timer on that feeder if it needs it. Get these things done and you'll be happy in the Fall when you won't be behind with those last minute chores.

Build a new set up now. Wait too long and it's hot and all the vegetation is up and solid. I'd much rather drive T posts and put up a feed pen now over any other time. This is also a good time to sell things on the forum that you realized you didn't need during the season. I just sold two rifles on here.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I'll load my feeders to throw protein through Jan / /Feb.
Then I will fish for a few months. Stack up crappie filets, among others. Time to add some white meat to the stash of venison (plus the scattered pork and turkey and leftover dove).
Then, around June/July, whenever all the natural greenery / protein starts to brown out, I'll get protein mix back in the spin feeders and get the cycle going again.
I typically don't feed at all once the March rains/growth hit until it browns out.
Forgot turkey season - God willin I'll shoot a couple more turkeys.

Put out feed, then just piddle.
Paint the 16' trailer, change tractor oil, cut down dead trees. Stuff like that
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I'm in the market for a used stand/fill protein feeder, or one that's easy to fill off a tailgate. Need to paint a couple of 4x8 blinds.

Have lunch with the landowner and renew for next year. Take down and store away pop-up ground blinds. Continue to check cameras in hopes of seeing what deer made it through the season. Focus on reducing the local feral hog population.

I will be heading out to my place SW from Ozona tomorrow to fill feeders and pull SD Card & replace, plus fresh batteries in cameras, timers, feeders. I might sit a bit for the extended doe/spike season too.
Most everything else is in pretty good shape at all 3 of my places ... so I will be hitting my wife's honey-do list

Next trip will be to fill all the corn and protein feeders and change out cameras, etc. if I have time I need to repair the camp fence that the cows have broken.

First thing that I will do is build a new blind. Wife has demanded it. Evidently my blind accommodations did not meet her standards. ![grin grin](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif)

There’s things that need done, but I can never seem to manage to prioritize them any higher than killing pigs.

One to add. All my rubber boots get sprayed with this stuff after the season closes. For all I know, it may be nothing more than ArmorAll in a different bottle, but I have rubber boots that are so old I honestly don't remember when I bought them that are still going strong. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/01/full-8809-442073-rubber_conditioner.png)

During season I make a list on my phone of things I need to repair, paint, any ideas on stands I want to move or feeder changes, new gear I need to buy, camp improvements, etc. After hunting seasons are over I prefer to have everything on the list done by the end of March. I also pull the feed units or batteries from any feeders not feeding year round, clean them up and any repair or replace any as needed. Then come the new season all I have to do is get the feeders going, fill them, top off the ones feeding year round, and do fun stuff.

When you live where you hunt it’s never ending. Trapping time is here. Coyotes and coons need some maintenance.

Look for sheds, already have two bucks that have dropped at least one antler. I know it's not a good sign this early but I love finding them.
