For you guys that cover a fair amount of ground, curious what boots you're in. I'm on year three with Danner Recurves. Like them OK but thinking about upgrading. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/01/full-248-441992-img_9935.jpg)

The ones that fit your feet best. I wear 11E in most shoes, but I wear a straight 11.5 in these. I’ve two pairs, one of which is insulated. I use these for hunts where the ground is rough and I’ve got to walk some distance. At my old lease, I wore snake boots in warm weather. Most of the time there was no real need to walk terribly far. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/01/full-10395-441996-img_0112.jpeg)

Danners don’t last anymore. They don’t hold up to one bird season. I’ve switched to Irish Setters. I walk a lot of miles every year. I’m on my second season with these boots. They are still holding up.

Danner Crater Rims if a lot of hiking is involved.
If I’m just hunting my little land in the woods, I wear Irish Setter wellingtons.

Irish Setter Terriane 17" snake boots in the spring & summer. Normally my ranch works boots unless it's super cold outside.
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

I rotate between Hanwag Yukon leather lined and Crispi briskdale mtn gtx. If I had to pick My favorite be the leather lined Yukon, no gore Tex just breathes so much better
I probably pick up the SF version of the briskdal mtn here shortly for some higher elevation hunts.

For casual hunts like the deer lease, I wear my usual work boots. For serious hunts, I have a pair of Kenetreks and a pair of Crispis.

Danner Santiam. For the $400.00 a great investment. Most comfortable boot I ever had, warm, they actually seem to propel you while walking like something with more of a sport like design would.
Since you can send them to the factory for resole you could theoretically have them forever.
I haven't "run" in them yet, but if I do I'll let you know.

Danner Brown Christy or the recon coyote hoy weather. I have two pait of the brown christy. When I wear the sole out I have them recrafted with new vibram soles. Cost me $90.00. One pair is on its second recraft, the other on its first. I just counted a total of six pair it my closet just now. I wear a pair every day, my newer ones are worn to church. Very seldom if almost never do I wear tennis shoes.

I’ve had 2 pairs of Danners over the past 20+ years. Both pairs have had the tread separate from the shoe. Both pair appear to be stitched treads but are only glued on. My Red Wings and LLBean boots are really stitched.

Lowa. A few years ago at the Shot Show in Las Vegas, Steve and I tried all of the major brands of hunting boots exhibiting. Lowa was the most comfortable so we purchased a couple of pair. They are great in the field, extremely comfortable. Only problem is I wear the soles off in extremely rocky terrain, expecially volcanic type rock. Adios, Gary

I've been hunting the same pair of Danner's for many years. That being said, one of my best friends that lives in Alaska goes absolutely everywhere in a pair of Xtratuff slip ons! I've seen him hunt Mountain goats in the same pair of boots that he halibut fishes in. He's weird... The guy can drink like a sailor and climb mountains like a Sherpa.

when it's really cold, I use Danner Pronghorn but I'm very hot natured and typically only wear New Balance leather cross trainers. Hard to find a comfortable boot for my 14 EEEE feet.

For the past year and a half, I've worn the Crispi MONACO/TINN GTX. Most comfortable boot I've ever worn out of the box. They have held up great. I wear them to work almost daily along with daily wear at home and hunting. Only thing id change is the tread is very aggressive. Would like more of an all terrain than a mud tire. lol I might get another pair but been eyeing another pair of Solomons witch I've owned several pair of. Very comfortable as well

I have a pair of Danner Ospreys that I got in 1999. They are still going strong and have been many miles hunting Aoudad in Big Bend to many seasons in the Panhandle chasing pheasant, whitetail and mulies. I had a pair of Mendl Perfect Hunters that went to pieces on me during this same time period after 5 years of use. They never were worn or took hard abuse like the Danners.

I have the Irish Setter Kasota with the BOA lacing system. I love the lacing system and the ankle support and ease of adjustment really makes it nice. There are other makes now with the same system depending on your budget.

Same thing I am trying to figure out. Maybe it is just my age, but "What boots do you run?" does not make any sense to me. If you wear boots you are not cool. If you "run" boots (or a scope, a rifle, bipod, etc.) you are of a "tactical" mindset and therefore a cool person.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

If you wear boots you are not cool. If you "run" boots (or a scope, a rifle, bipod, etc.) you are of a "tactical" mindset and therefore a cool person. While you're correct, the statement can be significantly enhanced by replacing whatever the object reference would be - rifle, boots, etc - with rig. For example: "I run this rig." In the case of this thread rig would be a pair of boots. That's the equivalent of saying "I wear these boots". If you hear run and rig together you know you are in the presence of greatness.

I've dropped $ on stuff and rarely do I feel that it wasn't worth it. $ on good boots can make or break a trip. Buy them.

I can still wear my Chips Snakes but for support I wear a pair of Drew hikers with a custom orthotic. I bought them through my podiatrist.

I wear Danners for work and hunting. I have a pair of Danner snake boots for south Texas and really comfortable for what they are. Wore Danners while in the military in Alaska, really good comfortable boot.

I firmly believe Danner quality has gone to crap. My newest pair had been worn less than 5x when I had the tread separate. I have older Dancers with a lot more wear and tear that have not had that issue.

With my Robin Williams legs, I can't stand wearing boot socks, and therefore, boots, so I use a tactical shoe from Under Armour. Much more comfortable, and I don't feel like someone is smashing the hair on my legs all day.

Crispi Shemeks arrived today. I believe it's their lightest and most flexible boot. Way more than I've ever spent on boots but first impressions are good. Feel way more substantial than my Danners and are very comfortable for sure. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/01/full-248-443196-img_9958.jpg)

What an odd statement. When's the last time you've seen a neurologist? Have you ever seen a neurologist?

Aransas Pass Ropers for me. Wal-Mart or Academy. Skinner, think I saw Ed Harris wear a pair just like that playing an Aransas Pass shrimper in 1985's, Alamo Bay. Dat Nyguen had a cameo in it as a 9 yo Vietnamese son of a shrimper. Interesting flick around the late mid to late 70s TX gulf coast tensions between Texan shrimpers and Vietnamese immigrant shrimpers.

I'm from Aransas Pass (the Shrimp Capital of Texas - was) and those tensions were VERY real, got stories...... I'm old enough to remember when the shrimping industry was booming here and Conn Brown Harbor was jam packed with shrimp boats and businesses. Now there's nothing there. Anyway, grew up wearing rubber boots too and they were always called Aransas Pass Ropers.

Right, think you recall I'm an old Southside CC boy. Partook in a few AP Shrimparee Fests back in the day when they were still something decent, late 70s, early 80s. Did several Bayfests and even a few Buc Days, lol....Can still taste the tough turkey legs today....

yep, I have been wearing (running) New Balance 857 for years but the last time I got ready to order, they were not available in my size. I opted for a less expensive version (don't recall the number) leather cross trainer but by the end of the day my feet are tired and achy. I'll keep a watch for 857s though. I just hope they didn't discontinue those.

depends on the hunt/location.. for mountain type terrain (Idaho for elk, New Zealand for tahr, etc..etc..) Ive got a pair of Schnee Beartooth that have been outstanding boots.. My wife wears Crispi West Rivers in similar terrain and swears by them... in Africa I wear a set of customs that were made by Al at James Leddy Boots over in Abeline.. there similar in design to Courteneys, but Al will make them specific to your foot and does a masterful job at a really good price.. here in TX I mostly hunt in the Piney Woods.. if its been particularly wet Ive got a set of muck boots I'll slip on.. otherwise I typically just wear an old pair of 511 boots that Ive had for the better part of 10 years.. they're starting to fall apart.. but the walk from the side by side to the blind isn't exactly far or hard lol.. so I keep wearing them..

Muck Arctic Pro. Probs not a boot for Texas but they work in my world. Quite possibly better options out there but refuse to pay stupid money for boots - $150 on sale is my limit. Socks to me are as or more important than the boots. With the right socks i can be good in crocs in sub zero as long i don't get wet.

What socks? They're about 20 years old and still work exceedingly well. I have thought about replacing them, but I've also seen that Muck quality has gone down over time as well. How do they hold up for you?

For work, I wear Red Wing lace-up King Toes, insulated. I abuse them pretty well and get about 12-18 months out of them before I wear the bottom down too far.
For hunting, Irish Setter VAPR Treks. They're very warm.

I used to really, really put in some miles and carry some heavy loads. 20 miles on the regular, carrying 70 pounds maybe more in my pack. The combined weight of all my gear was probably closer to 103 or 104 pounds, plus rifle and ammunition. If I were planning a western hunt, I would probably wear Rocky S2V military boots. It’s the best balance of comfort, support, and durability.
These days I just wear walmart’s top of the line, or anything I can find in a 11 4E up to a 12 4E and i get by pretty good for a 3-4 mile day carrying just water, snacks, and a bow and arrows.
