Haven't bought a scope in years due to not having the need to. I always liked a Leupold but am hearing that the quality has slipped. Mind you, I have just heard that, not sure if that is true. But for those that have been in the scope buying mode in the last few years I am looking for input. The 300 H&H will be used mostly for elk and mule deer and possibly nilgai. If you were looking for a scope what would be the one you would look at with a top price of $1000. Any helpful input is appreciated

Hey brother. looking at your request and wanted to offer a suggestion that may be off the beaten path. Take a look at the Arken Optics LP-8. It is a FFP 1-8x LPVO. 34mm tube, with ED Japanese glass. It has a illuminated KL box reticle and the illum is daylight bright. They usually offer mil discounts and if you watch close there are discounts off and on all year. It is well below your budget even at full retail of $314. I bought one for my 7mm/08 and liked it so much that I bought another. It is a low priced optic but punches well above its weight class. I like it as much as my Kahles K16i or my Swarovski Z6i and it is clear enough to shoot out beyond 400y and we have little business shooting past that distance on game. I have no financial ties to Arken but own many of their scopes and like them all. The LP-8 is one I like more than most. It is so cheap that if you do not like it, you can always mount it on a 22 squirrel rifle.
