The road that the crossing is on finally opened up this morning. It was still closed yesterday evening when we came in. Pictures just don't do it justice. Seeing the sheer quantity of twisted metal in person was an eye opener. There were literally hundreds of people with all kinds of equipment working nonstop to get the road open again.

Ultimately it is the truck drivers fault but that was a huge load. When you have something that big the state tells you which route to take. It is not like you have any choices. It is a huge fine if you deviate from the specified route. Probably a hundred lowboy/RGN trailers go over those tracks every day without issue. They are not near as long as this rig was though.

I don't know if this is fact, but was told to me by a friend that works for the railroad. The truck was stuck there for 45 minutes. The pilot company, truck driver or police didn't call the RR. He said that's a blind corner and they didn't have time to slow down much. He said they hit at 66mph which seems awful fast going through town.

I have sat at that crossing many times. The train comes through at speeds that seem too fast to me unless it stops and the RR employees walk to the convivence store. Lots of people waiting for them to come back. Prayers for all involved.
