The ear tag photo compared to the kill photo, he actually looked older and with more mass than in the velvet photo. Start another thread then. Your question is about nutrition. Consult a biologist

Have you purchased this forum?

This is crawfish off your original post, atleast be enough man to own your trolling

I’d say ask STX about nutrition since developing feed for LF/HF was his specialty, but you ran him off trolling him

You're a trouble maker, troll, self appointed guardian..........you and others are the ones that make this forum negative. Three of you troll me, to accuse me of being a troll. Pathetic. Here is the point that you go nuclear so the thread will get taken down to save yourself the embarrassment.

As for crawfishing, not at all. I asked the OP some questions. They're still out there. If he wants to help me with some relevant information that I asked about, that's fine. If not, that's ok as well.

You started with an incorect assumption. I am sure it was the first time.

None of your questions are relevant, you are just a bully that plays a little victim when called out on it. I’m not the least worried about my reputation.

Anyone that posts as much as you do and always has to have the last word is very worried about their reputation.

Explain to me what I got wrong. The OP stated that the deer had been released for four years, but seemed to be in a pen with an ear tag a few months prior to being killed. So, it would be interesting to know from the OP if the buck maintained the same rack mass year to year or not.

After what the OP told us, I never thought of him being in a pen just prior to the season. That photo of him in velvet didn't lead me to thinking he was in a pen. He never showed you a photo of that deer as a yearling. You got it wrong.

He stated that it was released from a pen for four years. The velvet pic with the ear tag, he still looked like he was in a pen. Also, the deer looked to be much younger in velvet than he did in the kill photo. I had honest motives for asking. If the "trolls" that trolled me to accuse me of being a troll believe it or not....... I don't care what strangers on the internet that are obsessed with their on-line reputation think.

Yes, that was him. He was released on the ranch out of the ranches own pens as a yearling. Then allowed to mature and breed the last 4 years. Praying we get a ton more babies down the road that look like him for sure.

That's interesting. How old was he in the pic with the other bucks in the pen, and how old when killed?

Ok, so the picture of him this summer in question and in velvet was not from a PEN. He was in one of our hay meadows on the ranch that borders a cross section (old pens) that are empty, and have been for a few years. I took the picture and here’s another of the bachelor group he was with before I captured the picture of him. All of the larger sized bucks ranged from 4.5-6.5 years of age. Then one little dink.

@ Huntinguide83, thanks. He looked way younger in the face in velvet than he did in the kill pic. Also, I saw the enclosure in the background. Had the photo's been taken a few years apart that would have been interesting to know as well. It seemed that year to year his rack didn't develop. Knowing he was killed a few months after the velvet pic that makes sense. I had a buck in August on camera, one pic and that's it. He was killed a few miles away in November by another hunter on our ranch. The buck you post seemed to put on mass from that velvet stage to being hard horned. Mine, opposite situation.

Here’s another picture of him late last year. He didn’t have have second drop and matching flyer off his left side then. But it’ll show you his mass progression that you asked about.

Interesting how his left beam hooks in the year before but not this year. Would love to see other years pics of him. I’m always fascinated how some things will remain the same but others will change.

How old in this pic? Is the drop characteristic coming in on the second beam a year after the first unusual?

I’ve heard of several times when a drop will come and go or switch sides. Not many pass a drop tine buck but some are in position to play the game at that level.
Just last week our landowner killed a drop buck that was about 9yo. He had passed him for 4 years. He went from drop right to double drop to drop left to drop right. It’s hard for me to understand why they do that but they do.

This guy had a single, four inch drop two years prior to his demise. The year before his demise, he was a slick 8.
