I was able to get out this morning before work, it just felt different today. I had plans of driving into a box blind I have only had time to sit once this year. On my way in my headlights caught a small buck, I rounded a point and 2 does and a good tall and wide very symmetrical 8 were in the headlights already in the wheat field. I turned around and parked behind a little point of woods. I got my binos, tripod rest, and my rifle and eased in to the wood line where I could watch. Once legal light came there was a doe and a fawn that came out for a bit then fed their way back into the trees. About 7:45 this morning it was like a switch and animals just started moving. I saw a nice buck way south of me 800-900 yards and watched him cruise looking for does that have not been bred yet. He was on the move toward me and I kept watching him while trying to also watch the area in front of me. I had earlier ranged the tree line directly East of me at 192 yds. my 30-06 X bolt is sighted a little high at 100 so 200 is dead on. I caught some movement and more does started filtering out into the wheat but looking back. All of the sudden, HE steps out and is looking at/making his way toward the does. He is THE man and just casually walking toward them, I got my gun up and on the tripod, him in the scope. He stops perfect broadside to look at the does. I put a Hornady white tail round right in the pocket behind the shoulder, he bucks, runs 25 or so yards, and falls over stone dead. I gave him some time but he did not move so I started toward him. As I approached I could see one beam sticking way up and I began to get emotional. When I got to him I could not believe what I was looking at, big, mature, grey faced roman nose, stinky, points and mass, a little busted up from fighting, just beautiful in every way. I made sure he was done and hit my knees offering a prayer of gratitude not just for this beautiful animal but for God's goodness and for a very special morning. I know there are bigger deer out there but this one is a true trophy! He will go on the wall of our log home as a reminder 12/12/2024 is a special day...

What a moment you realized. A great buck of a life time...an experience you'll never forget this one and probably not experienced ever again at this level. I would look on that wall with pleasure every day. Yes you may get a larger buck or not...but this experience will never be matched. I also took a great 12 point buck that I planned for a long time (years). We are lucky having such a religious experience that we will relive almost every day.
Congratulations to you ....
