Having a big hunt planned helps, a little, to inspire me to exercise a bit more. I don't have a big hunt planned. I have zero desire to get on an airplane ever again. It's one daughter's turn to bring the grandkids to us...dammit! I did thoroughly enjoy sitting in a blind yesterday morning and, having nothing show up that would require work.

One often leads to the other. The greatest of journeys all begin with a single step forward No doubt. I dreamed all my life about the perfect deer lease and it finally became a reality. Now I dream about the perfect set ups, equipment, gizmos and gadgets etc.

There are several "dream" hunts that I wish I had done when I was much younger and in physical shape to do them properly. Trophy Elk pack in, Moose, New Zealand red stag.

Bob Marshall Wilderness Elk Hunt, pack in/out on horseback of course.

My perfect hunt would be a trip back in time. Hunting with my Dad and then skinning his buck. He’d sit and drink whiskey while I worked. My brother’s cat would lap up blood, and his big dogs would eat the chunks I tossed them.
Another dream hunt would be quail hunting again on a south Texas ranch. I used to love that.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

No excuses DIY pack in Mule Deer. Idaho unit of choice with my long time hunting buddy and my son. 3 weeks for scouting and 3 weeks to hunt. Take my chances and let the cards fall how they may.

I took my first Snow Urial and Catalina ram this past fall. I'm now on a ram quest. Next up is a Midnight Urial ram hunt next fall. After that, I'll be going for brown Urial ram, Mouflon, Ibex and Texas Dall. They'll look nice in our guest house/hunting lodge on the ranch. I do need one more black buck as well.
Distance is not the issue, but the winds can make it interesting!

I've done about all the hunting I could do in TX, but I'm with the fellas that are looking for a good time hunting in the mountains. I put in for tags for Aoudads, Mulies, Pronghorn, and Elk every so often to see if I can get something done. I don't think my father has it in him to get into the hills anymore and my son is still green, so I've been focusing on NM. If it were just me on my own, I'd want to try Idaho.
There's something about being out of your comfort zone and into the unknown (to me) that appeals to my sense of adventure. I don't even care if I bring home a trophy at this point, I just want to get out there and live a little.

Love Idaho hate how they changed the OTC NR tag system. Last hunt I did in Idaho only game animal I didn’t see was Grizzly. Saw Mtn Goats, bear, stud moose, bunch of RMBHS, wolves, mule deer, elk and Pronghorns. Bring a ultralight stove and a Teepee, makes like mucho better

This may sound dumb, but I have no desire to shoot any more what most would refer to as huntable animals. I have a problem. I hate coyotes. My dream hunts would be to have a place in South Texas where whenever the hate got real bad, I could go and shoot coyotes.

For whatever reason I have been blessed to be able to hunt all over the USA along with multiple countries. Africa, New Zealand, Spain, Mexico, Canada, etc. In the USA ... New Mexico, Idaho, Kansas, etc. Over all my favorite was New Zealand - killed an awesome stag (he was number three in the world with SCI) along with a Tahr. Last pic is of a Spain Gredo Ibex - So I have been lucky to experience some incredible hunts -

You can borrow my Kifaru 2 man Tut and Titanium cylinder stove. If you want bigger then 2 man, Seekout side and Agali have best priced bigger teepee. kifaru has best but cost is not competitive

I’d have to ask where he went but a guy I know went to Canada for a Moose hunt
He showed me all the pics but they floated this river for miles and stop, get out and hunt, then back in the boat. They covered MILES like this…
I don’t know anything about Moose but his would be bigger than anything Cabelas would display…
I think he told me the hunt was $18k and that was several years ago
It just looked like an awesome experience
