5 documents sighting as in 5 that could be proven by what measure?
I know 3 guys who have personally seen one. All in the same 5 mile radius.
If TPW didn't see it, it wasn't there. We should claim they Jagarundis carry and spread CWD. We will have a lot more verified sightings
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

never seen one. I have seen one mountain lion in person and a couple on trail cams in SW TX. Still looking for a Black Panther though.

It doesn't matter how many people see something if you don't have a wildlife degree you didn't really see it.

Yes sir, late 70s/early 80s on our lease near Roma, TX in Starr County. A few mountain lions as well there. Too bad not as many nice deer though... Saw one once on Loma Blanca Road in Starr County, years ago (early 80s) when I worked down there for the BP.

One, the host talked about her guest's bio for 20 minutes. What kid under 30 has a bio worth talking about for 20 minutes? He wasn't a Navy Seal. The other one the young man was supposedly a pig expert. He supposedly LOVED visiting ranches and advising on the pig situation. I emailed him. Weeks later I got a response, asking when I was available. I answered that I was open for 2 months, then nothing. I sent another email asking if he got my previous response. 'Never heard from him again. They're just happy little clams in the bubble, some say cult, of College Station. And the kid that used to be in Kimble a couple guys back...poor devil.

The place I hunt in Crockett County, almost down to Pandale, a few years ago I saw something when it was dusty dark come into a feeder. I stared thru my binoculars until it was so dark I could no longer see it. It looked like a mountain lion in shape but way to small. Sleek body, very long tail, fairly solid dark in color. After I got home to have computer access, about the only thing it could have been was a Jaguarundi. I told the LO about it and she started researching as well. We are only about 40 miles due north of Langtry, so I guess one could have slipped up from Mexico.
The adjoining LO has taken 4-5 mountain lions over the past several years with more sightings this past fall including a bear. so I guess it's possible

Documented sighting statistics are worthless. With respect to actual numbers of anything, yes. Necessary nonetheless....as TP&W will 'try' to verify sightings and come up with some kind of number to report. They (TP&W) know that some of the other reported sightings are probably true. But they also know when it comes to CAT sightings, people come out of the woodwork with claims to having seen one (Mountain Lion, Black Panther, Jaguarundi). Hell...I could go tomorrow to the barbershop, bring up the subject and have no less than 10 people claim to have seen a Black Panther or know someone who has. So.....TP&W rightfully approach reports with some amount of skepticism.

I saw a typical Mt Lion on what is now my place in Mississippi years ago actually 5 of us gathered at the gate talking all saw it. A week or so later about a mile down the road two neighbors got into an argument about the color of the cat that crossed the road between them. Sun was setting the one headed East said typical mt lion color while the one headed west said no it was black and they argued I do not know how long when the cat sighting would be brought up. Never really hunted where I would expect to see a Jaguarundi but have hunted seen mt lions in Mississippi (now the state says Florida Panther, back then they said those do not exist in that state). Another Southwest of Rock Springs and one was killed on the ranch by the Government trapper shortly after season. I heard one during bow season in Eastland County, one of the land owner said a goat was missing found it across a cattle panel fence on the next place over half eaten and covered up and the tracks in mud at the tank. While hunting elk in Montana saw several mt lions.

While hunting elk in Montana saw several mt lions. I've never been fortunate enough to have seen one while hunting, despite having hunted in places where they do exist. I am envious of your experiences. I certainly understand they can be 'trouble' in some environments. At the same time a regal member of the ecosystem and North America's only 'Big' Cat. I wish more folks could see them as something other than just a Predator/Varmint to be killed upon sight.

I do think that they are to be respected for how secretive they are, if for nothing else. Hell, an African lion can't move through territory that stealthy.

OSW, 82 yoa and spent a lot of time outdoors. Never seen one except for a dead one on the road.
