These fronts definitely brought fresh ducks. We still have wigeons and gadwalls. Handfull of mallards. Be tough early with clouds and no wind to decoy them early. Going to pull out all stops- smaller spread and tons of motion today.

Have hunted 40% less year to date, but the hunts have been pretty good overall.

Waiting for the South Zone next week!

I hunted by myself this morning Greek. Lots of woodies but they have been here for some time. Finished and gone by 7:30 so not there long enough to gauge how many birds are actually around. Did not hear much shooting but I don’t think there were many hunting near where I was either.

Not going this weekend. Christmas party season has started and we had back-to-back work parties. Clear the rest of the month until Christmas week.

I was on lake suck this morning.

Based on the silence this morning, I would say that the SW Corner of Cedar Creek Reservoir qualifies as Lake Suck.

We did shoot 3 man redheads, gadwall and wigeons. First green wing of the year - tried to upload pic, said too large a file. Hmmmmm

We normally have some good hunts in Henderson Van Zandt - typically the last 2 to 4 weeks of the season… Really gotten odd the last 3-4 years- when it’s good, it looks like a ducks unlimited video

Guy, not sure if your being yourself (sarcastic) or not- piles of dove in Van Zandt- season opens Sat. May have ducks showing up by now, so will hunt whatever is there Sat PM Sunday am.

I am in Fannin tonight- first Solo hunt of year w Tucker, my 1.5 year old spaniel. Light bulb went off last hunt- he settled down, didn’t try to retrieve any decoys, was able to send from blind for doubles and triples. He will be a great one.

We are hunting ducks in am- thinking should be good- shooting first 6 that I can- have 3 guns Sat am. Doing a 5 goose spread and just 5 mallards w 3 bubblers, robo and my flock of flicker “magic” set up. PM me wil share w you

It's funny how different every season is. I shot a pair of wood ducks this morning. That was it. Last year there were wood ducks all over this spot. It was as sure enough hunt as you could get going into this spot that you could cherry pick 3 drakes and have shots at gwt and mallards. So far this year there is a few wood ducks but not many. And no gwt or mallards in this spot.

Ha ha yeah you never know with me. Some how I got myself confused, yeah central zone opened today actually.

My cocker got sliced up-2 staples she’s fine- left buddy @ ranch to shoot dove. We wacked the ducks this am. Had 2 sail on us on big lake didn’t finish - but 2 shy of 3 man w pintail drake limit. My buddy stood up and shot at group of 20+GWT that buzzed us going away / we only got 3 from that pass / should have been 6-7 with one more turn - gave him major sh**

Picked up these shells a group left in one of my favorite hunting spots. For years never seen a trace of hunters here, now it is trashed pretty regularly. SMH.

That sucks. I have a new scouting/hunting buddy that made into my small circle of trust. We divide and conquer, compare notes, then hunt the best option. He found a spot waaay out of the way that was holding a bunch of mallards and woodies. We went back a couple days later and there was zero woodie flight at legal. Then I noticed all the shells floating around us in the brush. At least we know why it sucked.

I'm not one of those old heads that like to bash on the younger generation, and I'm not saying it's always them, but I've seen it a lot. Even with 20 something year olds that have been hunting their whole lives. I'm not sure why... maybe they'll figure it out some day.

When I was in my 20s 30s public or permission in private, I /we would always leave the area in better shape than before we arrived. Takes 5 minutes as you all know- sad that many today are not interested in preservation

When I hunted public I always picked up every shell/hull I saw...no sense making the "X" I hunt, easy to find...on a lease now and I'm a stickler for picking up all the hulls...When I hunted doves last week in the desert out East of San Tan Valley, I paid my brothers grandsons a nickel a piece to pick up the hulls that we saw when we got there...cost me almost $20 , most of a 5 gallon bucket full...sooner or later pictures of a mess like that will get in the wrong advocate's hands and the area will end up a non-shooting/hunting area...

Ya that sucks. I've had a few spots over the last couple season where I never saw anyone. Now a few people have been hunting them.

I assume they found via boom scouting.

I'm tempted is invest in a silencer.

I got a few days off here, can’t decide if I want to duck hunt or snow ski. Tough decision I got to make. I don’t like hunting in the rain.

Anyone hunt new water? May take a few days for ducks to get in it…..should start using now. Think we will see more red heads and first Canvasbacks of the year

Better today! Finally…..limits of gadwall and wigeon and some mallards showed up but didn’t play the game.
Passed on several groups of divers. Still lots of those around.

Hunted here at the house Saturday am. 3 guys and we got 6 Mallards and One Merganser. Should have had maybe 10 or 12 birds. Getting alittle better.

Yesterday…

I have no meaningful migration in Van Zandt, but smoked the dove in less than 1.5 hours last night. Dog doesn’t care!!

Nice - hunted big feed in the fog the other day. Had 300 waterfowl, 100 of which were canvasbacks. Wouldn’t decoy at all except for 4 singles
