The coating is called Dura-touch and Browning wasn't the only manufacturer to use it. 3M general purpose adhesive remover worked on mine with zero issues.

So I bought a browning cynergy a few years back. Over the years it became sticky to the touch. Like gross sticky. So do some reasearch and find out that browning got sued and will warranty the finish and make things right. Great I’m thinking… well wrong. Sent the gun back 3 months ago. I was told it would be Feb before I get it back…hey whatever il live. I’ve got other guns. Brownings.. My gun is gone 3 months and I get the it’s coming back email. So I’m happy and thinking il get to hunt the second half of duck season.
I get the gun back yesterday. I open the box and am like what is going on?! The gun has been gone for 3 months the camo hydro dipped patten is coming off the gun is still sticky and is literally in the same exact shape i had sent it to them in!! So im not happy.

Call customer service only to be told sir id be upset to but you have to call back tmrw and talk to the warranty guys.
This am I do that! I’m told my stock and fore grip were replaced and the gun was sent back.
So the camo is pealing off the gun is now lightly rusted from sitting at browning so long, and it looks like 💩 poop.

Browning tells me all they have to do according to their lawsuit is fixed what was in the suit and the rest is on me. Hell to the no no no. Told them that’s the last browning il ever buy. So now I’m gona have to have it stripped and cerakoted to make it right. Well browning good buy its off to beretta or Benelli my business goes. Hopefully it makes others think twice also about their customer service.

Are you saying they didn't do anything to the stock, or that the replacement stock finish has the same problem? The new stock should have a harder surface, not the cushioned feeling of the dura-touch.

In 2020 I sent two Maxus shotguns back for the dura-touch repair. A few days later I received an email confirming receipt and providing a service number and password for checking the repair status on their website. I could see the progress of the work by checking periodically and received a notice when it was ready to ship back. I was impressed with their system. I received the Stalker back first since they simply replaced the stock on it. They received it on April 8 and shipped it back on April 20. The replacement stock does have more of a hard plastic feel, but it functions fine. The camo shotgun took a few weeks longer. They had to camo dip it since it was a discontinued MODB camo pattern. They also replaced the gas piston assembly on that one which I did not expect.

Then in 2023 I sent a new A5 back and they returned it very quickly like the first Maxus.

I have heard a lot of theories discussed, insect repellant, sunscreen, gun scrubber, storage in cases, etc. I think it was more of a gradual chemical breakdown of the coating itself since it didn't show up for years on most guns. Mine took about 6 to 8 years to start breaking down.

Did it remove the finish or just the sticky feeling?

Yeah for those wondering… you contact browning filling out a form on their website. They email you a tracking label. Once they recieve it they give you a control number. I called during the time they had it and was told they were going to redo the dura touch and re dip the gun so I should get it back looking new…. Fast forward 3 months and it comes back in the same shape if not worse than what i sent it to them in. I take care of my stuff. I called their customer service and complained as well as sent them a not so nice email. They’re wanting the gun back again at the moment… I’m super hesitant at this point to send it out again. Il report back but as of now it’s still a mess I’m trying to clean up with them.

No but it’s not made to leave on very long at all. Literally just seconds. Automobile dealers use it to quickly get bumper sticker residue off of cars they buy. You can put a dab on an inconspicuous area and check though in case they have changed their dip material.

I sent mine back because it was sticky. Took them forever to evaluate it, then fix it by replacing the stock and forearm. I think I sent it in in February and got it back in May.

It's all of their synthetic stocks from that time period, not just camo. The camo takes longer to get back, especially if it's a discontinued pattern. I tried to fix mine myself but had no luck.

Mine came back no longer sticky, but now it's just run of the mill plastic furniture, doesn't feel as nice as the duratouch.

btw, I've never used anything with deet

Thanks for the update. I just bought a new Browning Silver with the Auric hydro dip camo finish. I’m hoping it doesn’t have the same issue.

There's a part of me that wants to go back to a pump gun. But I very rarely have issues with my semi autos.

I have a Browning Maxus and had the sticky issue, too. Thought it was me and insect spray until i read about the lawsuit. I waited until the season was over and sent it in. It felt like it took a long time but got it back finally. Looks good not great and stickiness is gone.

This^.
Benelli was known for the hydrographics wearing off after awhile, as shown on Guy's gun, but it never got tacky or sticky.....just kinda went away. The problem with the duratouch is that it is a "rubberized" coating and it breaks down and gets a gummy, tacky feeling from the rubber breakdown process. In the last year I've sent back a pair of "armored" Steiner binoculars, a hand-held Garmin GPS, and a Bell racing helmet for the same thing. Steiner repaired the binos for a price, Garmin won't repair but will send a "refurbished" unit for a price in exchange, and the helmet we ended up using fingernail polish remover to get the "rubberized" coating off. I'm over anything with any type of rubberized coating.
