Would be an interesting study. I don’t think they’ve had a major impact but definitely some impact in some areas.

House cats are murderous creatures for sure, I have a couple around the house and shop, have never had a rodent problem and they’ve killed two rattlesnakes that I know of.

I often wonder though if the benefits out way the possible destruction they are most certainly doing on some of the native bird species in the area. They kill lots of lizards also…

A couple minutes of research will tell you what you need to know about the destructive nature of house cats.

The first 16 years in this house we had all sorts of birds come to our backyard feeder, all year long. Then the stray cats in the area became numerous, and the birds have pretty much disappeared. The cats would hunt the bird feeder. They would hang out on the fence or on a limb. I found the root of the problem when the neighbor lady went on vacation for a week and asked my wife to feed the cat. She wasn't only putting out food for her cat, but extra bowls for the stray cats too. I thought I would start trapping them and re-home them to heaven, if she found out there would be hell to pay.

Not sure how that happened, John. She disappeared for 3-4 weeks in April and came back with it that way.
