Every now and then you hear some wild eye, crazy stories of purported mountain lions in big cities, almost every time it is a Bobcat.

Very surprised to see one roaming around western Collin County, guess it made its way down the Trinity river corridor?
Cannot believe our Frisco reporter Red Ranger has not jumped all over this one

Heard about it this morning. I think it's awesome when one makes it's way through north Texas. I'm curious where it will show up next

They've been living in North Texas for decades. They are not passing through.

In the 90's, when Collin County was a whole lot more country, we saw tracks. Friends of mine have sent me pics of tracks in Fannin County as recent as last year.

They are alway here, they just move like ghosts.

I believe that Jason is right. We've got them down in Navarro County too.

No they aren't. There are only 2 breeding populations in Texas. South Texas and Trans Pecos. The only ones in North Texas or East Texas are extremely rare dispersing males just wandering through.

Seen them in Cooke county right along the Red a few times.
Saying no known population is just not correct for North Texas.
They used to say Oklahoma had none either then my husband found a dead one on 287 in their panhandle. He stopped and looked it over and I reported it to their wildlife dept, several years ago.

There are black ones roaming around too, you just never see them because they are black and even harder to see at night. And if you ever see one, you will never talk about it because they will eat you.

Correct, if you believe everything on Google you will see people claiming they see them all over the place. There is a reason there have only been a handful documented in North Texas since TP&W started keeping records of them. Lots of people make claims but never seem to have proof

Not everyone carries a camera around with them,. saw tracks and then the mt lion crossed the road in front of us. BILs have also seen them so yeah they are in North Texas.
The proof is what we saw with our own eyes and yes we know what mt lions look like.
Why folks thinks an apex predator will not be located near cities is just crazy.

Lets try this Googler:

According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), mountain lions (also known as cougars) in Texas are found in the following areas:
Trans-Pecos: The majority of mountain lions in Texas are found in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas
Hill Country: Mountain lions are found in the southern two-thirds of the Hill Country in Central Texas
South Texas: Mountain lions are found in a large portion of the South Texas brushlands
North Central Texas: Mountain lions are found in limited areas of North Central Texas

Effort to conserve state's mountain lion populations ...
Mountain lions are most commonly found in remote, thinly populated ranchlands, but they can be encountered almost anywhere. They are rarely seen in their native haunts because they are retiring and shy by nature, and are largely nocturnal.
Mountain lions are unlikely to expand into areas outside of their current range without significant changes in mountain lion management policies.

All of these sightings remind me of when I was working in the woods with a crew and they went in first while I was getting some things in order at the truck. They came running out after about 30 minutes saying they saw a big animal in the woods. I asked what it looked like knowing there isn't anything in SE Texas to be too concerned with and they said "It looked like a bear!" So I needed to see this bear for myself that ended just being a nutria rat. People will let their imagination run wild sometimes. These were grown men too, city slickers but still grown.

Saw the tracks of one in Grayson County west of Van Alstyne on Christmas Day 2005. Not mistaking what it was.

Hey, maybe the Frisco lion ate RedRanger?

They are around Lake Lewisville, and Lake Ray Roberts.
We keep chickens, so used to see a mountain lion every-other year when we lived in Shady Shores (south of Denton/North of Corinth). Bobcats year round.
We're north of Ray Roberts now, about a mile away, and have seen mountain lion come around twice, and actually briefly trapped one in a large live trap - but it destroyed the trap and got out!
Bobcats also always come around, but fortunately haven't had to dispatch any as we have a dog-kennel for a chicken-run now and they can't chew thru that, lol!

Wasn't there a mountain lion with cubs spotted out near Lake Lewisville 2-3 yrs ago? Little Elm I believe?

I saw a huge Mountain Lion on BrinkMan ranch at Preston/ElDoradao last October, I was doing my morning walk around 8 am on Sunday and they had just mowed a section of the field they had sold for development he was huge, he was running across the area if hadn't been mowed he would of been hidden.

I have a 5000 acre ranch across the street from me full of deer, coyotes, and at least one mountian lion.

I see alot of bobcats in the early morning walking

Only mildly shocked. 99% of the "Mountain Lion" sightings around DFW are bobcats seen by uneducated people. We have them on our ranch in the panhandle, and I had them on a lease near Childress that was on the Pease River. Cool video, but a bit concerning that a lion is bold enough to roam a residential neighborhood.
