I need to buy a bunch more SD cards for my non cell game cams. I dont know anything about them and whatever i grab has always been fine for my purpose. However, Ive started taking video with non cell game cams and sometimes when I check them they say “memory full”. This happens with 16GB and 32GB so Im looking at going to 64GB or even 128GB. They are pricey enough(I need 12) that I would like to make an informed decision. Prices and types and styles on Amazon are all over the place so I need to compare apples to apples. Besides GB they will also show MB(bigger number). What do I need? What should I consider? Some say just SanDisc, some say HC, Ultra, Ultra Plus, Extreme Pro, Imagemate. Those choices just within SD line. Im no pro and perfect image isn’t critical but dont mind paying for better if it’s easy enough. Im sure you get what you pay for but WHAT do you get for more. Thanks, Pics of what I usually use. Also, I have a big fancy camera also and would use these for it also.

Check and see what your SLR camera needs as a minimum. As for game cams, I think I have 32s in the Tactacams. They’ve never been full up. As for what brand, SanDisk has always been a good choice.

I use these in my game cams and Canon Rebel. If you fill one up it’s because you never deleted anything for many months or more. I hate the mini SD cards that go into a full size card. PITA for no reason. I buy them in bulk on eBay and save a lot buying them that way. 500 high quality game cam pics take up about 2-3 percent of the storage space.

Instructions on my Moutrie cameras say no more than 32 gigs. yep, game cameras usually have a max size SD card they work with. I have Browning & Spypoint, maybe an odd other one here & there and all mine are max 32 GB capable. Those I have out in Ozona get checked about every 3-4 months, will have 5,000-8,000 pictures and still have space for more. I have all mine set on medium resolution. Does your cameras have a lower resolution setting for video?

I'm so old-school, I've never seen a need for video on a trail cam. I guess it might help if you gotta get a vote of members, or the approval of the "lease nazi"...'sorry, "lease manager."

just this last weekend a buddy of mine shared with me that his son tried to get him to buy a cell cam, with gadgets like that he is a cave man and did not want to mess with it. His son said he would setup the app on his phone and get him hooked up, he did and now he fricking loves it and will not use old school game cams now.

We have Spartan cell cams at all 11 feeders and love them. These cams I want SD for are non cell and I duplicate at about 6 out of the spots where we have or expect special “deer of interest”. I have them set on video for ten sec and delay one minute. We want the video to help with decisions on aging (and scoring) and just generally learning more about deer interactions. I pull/watch them and delete them about every other week and they sometimes max memory. Several 100 videos. I don’t want to change settings if all I have to do is get more memory. Very good to know that some cams won’t take larger memory.

Video on a trap set from a game cam is invaluable. I can see why I didn’t catch it or if everything worked perfectly. A person can learn a lot about fur bearing animals by watching them in a set. I set mine on 3 minutes and they either get caught or turn it down by then.

We have the max plan on our cells and we still go over our data. If we did video on them it would cost a fortune I assume. With non cell I can crank up quality of video and frequency etc and it costs no more.

The faster cards are for your DSLR. The blue cards are for your trail cameras.

The grey cards are 100/mbs or 130/mbs. They capture data faster and you need that in a DSLR but not a game camera. I think I have 130 mps 128 gig cards for my DSLR cameras.

Im dumb as dirt on this stuff. I have a Nikon P1000 and use that blue card I posted. When I switch to the other one do you think it will be a noticeable difference in quality of pics?

The card size/speed comes into play with video and if you’re taking a bunch of images really fast. The camera has a buffer speed that can only go so fast for your settings. If you’re a professional photographer taking sideline shots and a football game you want a larger card so it doesn’t get backed up and stops taking pictures until they are written. If you’re like me and you are taking wildlife and landscape photos the card size doesn’t really matter. This is what my friend told me when I was picking out cards and she’s a professional photographer.

32 gig Scandisc on Walmart online was actually cheaper than Amazon when I bought a large quantity a couple months ago. Work great in my Brownings and Moultree cams.

You said “larger card” and “card size” but how do you know the size? It sounds like for my purpose it doesn’t matter but I’m curious. GB is “memory” size I guess, but that’s not what you mean, correct? On some they have another number “MB”, is that the size reference, or speed. Dumb it down somebody.

Size is GB, speed is MB but not all disk cards will have MB speeds on their face but shilould state on their packaging. Also, HDC cards are "high definition" and some cards are and a lot are not, read the packaging. Also, some disks are "San Disks - SD" and others are not. My game cameras like SD cards whether HDC or not, have never really worried about the MB speeds since shooting still photos only. I generally use 16 GB max but could run them up to 32GB per camera maxes.
